Blanc Nails

Blanc Nails

Katherine Penney Chic Essie Nail Polish White Beauty Spring Modern Clean Review

I had wanted a white nail polish for such a long time, so when Boots had a 3 for 2 on all makeup I had to pick up the perfect shade of white from my favourite nail polish brand, Essie. I can't image how many times I have gone on about my love for Essie on this blog, so I won't go on about how amazing they are for too long. But they are honestly the best polishes that I have ever tried.

The shade that I picked up was the shade Blanc which is a true white shade with no shimmer. I know that often a lot of pastel and white shades come out very thin and you have to do several coats before it starts to look like the colour in the bottle. And even though I know Essie is an amazing brand part of me still expected to have to do several coats just because white is such a light colour. But after one coat of this I knew that wasn't going to be the case because this polish is just so opaque. I ended up doing two coats just to fill in any little gaps and to neaten everything up. But this went on so smoothly and beautifully and tried pretty quickly two.

The other thing that I was worried about was that because I haven't seen any sun in what feels like forever and I literally have no colour a white nail polish would totally wash me out and look awful. And even though I do think that this would look a hundred times better with a bit of a tan I still love that way that it looks right now. It's worth spending a bit of time shaping your nails before as the bright white does draw attention to them. But the colour just looks so chic and crisp and modern. And with my gold watch and a couple of gold rings I felt like I had got the whole look nailed! Geddit?!

Anyway, bad jokes aside this is a really great white polish and it should only take you two coats to get a perfect opaque white colour. Also Essie as a brand is brilliant, but maybe I am slightly biased?! xx

Essie Power Clutch

Essie Power Clutch

Katherine Penney Chic Style Beauty Manicure Nails Polish Essie Khaki Spring Pretty Gold Rings Urban Modern

I've literally just spend the last 40 minutes or so watching the lastest episode of TOWIE (don't hate, it's a guilty pleasure!) and painting my nails. And after a few weeks of wearing lots of neutrals and pastel shades I decided to go for this beautiful shade of khaki. And as soon as I put it on my nails I just fell in love with it so I thought that I would share some pictures with you.

The shade is Essie Power Clutch. Not a shade that you really hear about much, if ever but I really think that it deserves a little mention. It really is such a perfect transitional shade for this time of year when you are starting to get excited for Spring but the weather isn't yet agreeing! The khaki shade is dark but not too bold and I think it would compliment most skin tones, especially with a few pretty gold rings.

Essie Shearling Darling and Rimmel Glitter Bomb Top Coat

Essie Shearling Darling and Rimmel Glitter Bomb Top Coat

Katherine Penney Chic essie shearling darling rimmel glitter nail polish

Katherine Penney Chic essie shearling darling rimmel glitter nail polish

After the Christmas lights turn on and a day spent wondering around the Manchester Christmas markets I am starting to feel super festive! So when it came to painting my nails a few days ago I decided to go for something a little Christmassy!

Both the nail polishes that I chose are new to me so I really wanted to share with you what I thought of them. The first is Essie's Shearling Darling polish which is a really sophisticated dark red/maroon and perfect for this time of year. Like pretty much all of the Essie nail polishes that I have tried it is amazing quality and a lovely thick brush. For top coat I chose the Rimmel glitter bomb top coat in Disco Diva because I am a sucker for anything sparkly! Especially at this time of year! It's fine silver glitter with larger pink glitter and look just beautiful when it catches the light. And I found that over a colour one coat of this is perfect.

I really love this combination of polishes but to be honestly I think that this glitter top coat would look great over a lot of colours and I can't wait to try it over other shades!

Hope you are all well. Exactly one month until Christmas now! :D xx

Nails And Necklaces

Nails And Necklaces

I wanted to share with you the nail polish and necklace that I am wearing this morning. This is one of my new nail polishes from Essie called Parka Perfect. As soon as I put this on my nails I just fell in love with the colour. It's like a greyish blue with a tiny bit of sparkle in. I haven't really seen anything like this before and I just think it is beautiful as perfect for this time of year. Also how cute is the name?! I also wanted to show you this beautiful necklace that my sister gave to me when I saw her last week. It's so sweet that she spent her birthday money buying me some presents and I really do miss her a lot.

Nails - Essie Parka Perfect

Necklace - Accessorize
Watch - Nixon
Rings - H&M

Just a really quick post today as I have so much university work that I really need to get on with. I love taking beautiful pictures and writing up blog posts and honestly I would spend all my time doing it if I could. Recently I have been trying to post again everyday and while I have been managing I am starting to feel that it is at the expense of other things such as work. I am getting all my university work dome but I want to spend more time doing things such as extra reading and outside of lecture revision so I can really get the most that I can from my course. From now on I think I will try and post every other day to help me create a better balance between work, seeing friends and family, my blog and everything else. Hope you all understand :) Speak soon xx

Winter Essie Haul

Winter Essie Haul

Winter Essie Polishes

Winter Essie Polishes

Winter essie nail polishes

Winter essie nail polishes

A few days ago I read a post by Miss Makeup Magpie about an Essie Haul that she had done on a website called Fragrance Direct which is selling Essie nail polishes for £2.50. You can check out her post and see the colours that she bought here. I'd never heard of this website before but I really am so happy that I have as I found some really great bargains.

In Boots Essie nail polishes are sold for £7.99 and from salons they are even more expensive. So I can't believe how cheap these polishes are, especially considering they are some of the new shades. As well as 32 of the regular polishes they also sell two of the snake skin nail polishes and two of the multidimensional top coats.

The shades that I picked up were:
Shearling Darling - A beautiful sophisticated dark browny plum

Belugaria - a black with large glitter pieces in that I think will be great for Halloween!
Ignite the night - A very fine silver glittery polish perfect for the upcoming party season

Parka Perfect - This is my favourite and one that I have wanted for a while. It's a bluey grey with a hint of sparkle running though. So beautiful and usual and I think this will look lovely for every season.

I also picked up a couple of Calvin Klein lipsticks for less than £2 which I will write about once I have used then a bit and done some samples. So if you haven't checked out fragrance direct then you can click the link here. I especially recommend it is you are an Essie obsessive like myself. I've been back on their website since and made another wishlist for more polishes. So far I'm staying strong though!

Summer Nail Polishes That Made The Cut

Summer Nail Polishes That Made The Cut

I have a pretty large and ever growing nail polish collection so the few (or not so few depending on how you look at my packing!) that make it on holiday with me must be pretty special. I brought 6 colours and a clear polish with me to Cornwall this year. So here are the polishes that made the cut.

Maybelline – clear
Essie – Fiji
Essie  - Tea and Crumpets
Essie – Lilacism
Essie – Cute as a button
Rimmel – Pillow talk (I’m wearing this one at the moment)
Barry M - Mediterrean

The New Nautical Nails

The New Nautical Nails

So I like to match my nails to my outfit as much as the next girl, and one of my favourite trends for summer is nautical, particularly stripes which I saw all over this months Elle and Vogue. When the weather starts to get warmer like it is now I really love wearing pretty dresses. I got this one last year from a stall in Camden Market for £8 which is amazing. And Camden is one of my favourite places for cute and unique fashion finds.

To contrast with this simple stripy dress I wanted to wear a bright coral colour on my nails. Coral is one of my favourite colours for summer and it's such a great colour to wear when you start to get a little bit tanned (which I like to this I am now, even if it is mostly from a bottle!). Turns out I had a few more coral coloured nail polishes than I though but I think that they all look lovely with this dress or in fat with any striped or nautical outfit. Coral is a great alternative for red and I love the fresh and modern look of this outfit.

The shades shown in the picture are:
Essie - Tart Deco
Essie Cute As A Button
Rimmel 60 seconds - 418 Instyle Coral
Collection - 43 Fruit Salad
Natural Collection - Antique Coral

The colour that I chose in the end was Rimmel Instyle Coral as I haven't worn this one in a while and I thought that it was a nice in-between of all the colours. Really love how this looks on the nails.

Rimmel Rita Ora Nail Polish In Pillow Talk

Rimmel Rita Ora Nail Polish In Pillow Talk

In my opinion Rimmel does the best drugstore nail polishes. The formula is amazing, the brush is nice and thick and they dry super fast. I saw this colour as part of Rita Ora's collection for Rimmel and just fell in love with it. I had been looking for ages for a very pale baby blue for Spring but couldn't find one that I felt was pale enough for what I was looking for.

I picked this up in Boots the other day and applied it basically as soon as I got home. It took two coats for a really opaque colour but it dried so quickly. I was a little disappointed with the colour to be honest. It's still a lovely blue shade that I think looks really nice in summer but it just wasn't the shade that I though I had picked up. The blue is a lot brighter and darker than I had hope or than it looks in the bottle. I'm not sure if you can see this in the photo but there is a difference. I will still try and use this colour and I have a Barry M one in a very similar shade to this and I definitely prefer the Rimmel one.

But for now my search for the perfect very pale blue continues. I have my eye on Essie "Blue and Borrowed" so if anyone has tried this I'd really love to know if it is really pale or not. And if you know a shade of very pale blue that I might be interested in then I'd love to know in the comments below. Thank you :)

Barry M Aquarium Collection In Mediterranian

Barry M Aquarium Collection In Mediterranian

As soon as I saw this at the Barry M counter I just fell in love with it. I have never seen a colour like this before and I just think it is absolutely gorgeous. The whole Aquarium collect for Barry M is really pretty but quite a few of the colours I have something very similar. And I'm not really sure haw to describe this unique colour but I'll try, and hopefully the pictures will give you a pretty good idea.

The shade is a very glittery orangy rose gold colour. In some lights it looks a brassy orange colours and in others it looks a pinky colour with gold glittery through it. Since wearing this I have just received so many compliments and I can't stop looking and admiring my own nails! The formula of this polish is also really good and even though I'm not too keen on the thin brushes of Barry M polishes because the polish was really thick and opaque it was fine. I used two coats of this but really I think I only needed one as it is just such a strong colour.

Words and photos can't really describe how beautiful this colour really is and for only £4 I think you can't really go wrong. Also I definitely think this nail polish is making my hands look a lot more tanned than they really are! Bonus!
