Zara Knit And Tartan Scarf

Zara Knit And Tartan Scarf

Katherine Penney Chic Fashion Style Outfit Tartan Zara

Another quick outfit post today. I really wanted to share with you this jumper that I picked up in the Zara Sale this weekend. Zara is on of my all time favourite shops and I can never go inside the store or on the website without finding at least five things that I love! I managed to spot this beautiful white knit in just my size. For me a white jumper is such a staple as it can go with everything, especially coloured jeans. And this one is really flattering as it is tight on the sleeves and looser on the body and it has this beautiful lace detail along the top of the sleeves.

I kept the palette of this look really neutral with some dark denim jeans, and grey satchel bag and this lovely vintage tartan scarf I got from Clothes Show Live. I accessorised with this little necklace from Accessorize that adds some detail to the outfit and of course my watch. And after the December party season I have been loving nude lips, especially this Revlon one.

As it is still pretty cold in Manchester as I jacket I wore my Zara fur gilet as it compliments the other colours, adds some texture and means I am still able to show off the beautiful lace sleeves.

Space Party Galaxy Makeup

Space Party Galaxy Makeup

Last night I went to a huge space themed party held by my university to celebrate the end of exams. I didn't really know what to go as and I didn't want to spent a lot of money on a crazy costume. All I did know that what I just wanted to take the opportunity to wear a lot of sequins and glitter!

I ordered a little black sequin dress of Ebay for £10 as my costume and then I was just going to do some really cool makeup to dress it up. I probably spent hours in total scrolling through pinterest and WeHeartIt for inspiration on space themed makeup. But in the end I combined a few different looks and this is what I came up with.

Katherine Penney Chic Beauty Makeup Space Party Galaxy Stars Glitter

The makeup look I went for was a galaxy swirl/black hole around just my right eye. I started off with a white eyeshadow and did a white swirl under my eye to my cheekbone and then under my eyebrow to my nose. I then gradually darken the eyeshadow for the rest of the look from silver to grey and then to black. I made sure to really blend everything out so that the gradient looked smooth as it faded out. I then applied some Barry M glitter dust over the swirl, concentrating it on the white eyeshadow. Finally I used a Collection silver liquid liner and a glitter liner to draw on a few stars of all different sizes.

For my left eye I just did a bit of a smoky eye in similar colour with the black and silver. I also decided to wear some pretty long false lashes from Collection for about £3. I don't often wear fake lashes but these ones are pretty simple to put on and I love how they look on a night out.

On my nails I wore the silver Rimmel Space Dust which I thought was pretty fitting and kept with my glittery theme.

Hope you liked this different kind of makeup up post! So happy that my exams have finally finished and I can't wait to get back into a routine of blogging more often. Speak soon xx

Casual Tuesday Outfit

Casual Tuesday Outfit

Katherine Penney Chic Fashion Outfit Style Denim Fur Hat

For me this is the ultimate comfy casual outfit. Nothing says off duty like leggings, a loose fitted denim shirt, converse and a beanie. Today I am basically just in my room revising and maybe going out to the library later so I just want to be comfy.

Katherine Penney Chic Fashion Outfit Style Denim Fur Hat

I love this really pale denim shirt that I picked up a while ago from Republic. It's slightly ombre as well so it is basically white around the shoulders and darker at the bottom. The fit is sloutchy and loose but still flattering. I also love that it is a bit longer at the back which means I can wear it with leggings and my bum is still covered. I don't really feel comfortable wearing jeggings with a short top as I don't find it as flattering.

I kept colours and jewellery quite neutral with my everyday gold watch and a beautiful delicate gold necklace from Accessorize. Also think my new phone case is looking pretty cool with this outfit!

Katherine Penney Chic Fashion Outfit Style Denim Fur Hat

I'm totally obsessed with my fur bobble beanie that I got for Christmas. I love the colour and the oversized bobble and it's perfect for hiding all my bad hair days!

This would be my perfect lazy day outfit and to go out I would just pair it with a parka coat or something. Hope you like this little outfit post, haven't done one in a while but I really want to get back into it. Speak soon xx

The Best Surprise Ever

The Best Surprise Ever

Katherine Penney Chic Boyfriend Relationship Love Happy Life

On Saturday night I was on the phone to my boyfriend Jack who is at university in Durham. The last time that I saw him was New Years Eve which I know isn't too long ago but with him going skiing, my exams, then his exams and university life then next time I was going to be able to see him was Valentines Day. Not because I am a soppy Valentines Day person (although I do like all the pink heart decorations and the chocolates!) but just because that was the first weekend we were both available.

Katherine Penney Chic Boyfriend Relationship Love Happy Life Flowers

After another long day of revision we were just chatting on the phone as I thought he was walking back from playing squash. Then he told me to look out my window and surely enough there he was standing in the dark holding a bunch of my favourite flowers. I can't quite explain to you the shock and happiness that I felt in that moment and when I ran downstairs into his arms. It was like actually being in one of the many romance films that I love to watch! Being a good 2 or 3 hours away by train and not having loads of money being students we don't get to see each other during term time as much as either of us would like. But seeing him every 3 to 4 weeks is what keeps me going through the stress of uni work and missing home sometimes.

He stayed for Saturday night and then left late on Sunday evening. We stayed in bed and watched Netflix in the evening and then on Sunday we had a long lie in, went for brunch at my halls. In the afternoon I dragged him along to see The Theory of Everything as I have wanted to see it for ages but all of my friends had seen it so I had no one to go with. If you haven't seen it I really recommend it, it's a lovely film with some of the most amazing acting I have seen in a long time. We also went out for a quick dinner at Bella Italia and then I took him to the station.

It has been back to revision today, but after a perfect day with Jack yesterday I feel a little more motivated and I just can't wait to get my last exam over with on Thursday. I still can't believe how lucky I am to have a boyfriend who would go to all that effort to surprise me like that! He really is amazing!

Hope you all had a lovely weekend and Monday hasn't been too hard on you! Speak soon xxx

New Phone For A New Year

New Phone For A New Year

Katherine Penney Chic iPhone Case Life Pretty Stuff Luxury

Just before I came to university I was due a phone upgrade, so just before I got the train up to Manchester to went to get my new phone. I have had and iPhone 5 for the last 2 years and I think I would struggle to work any phone other than an iPhone now! I was lucky enough to upgrade to an iPhone 6 which I now love. It is bigger than previous iPhone models and a lot thinner but I can still fit it in pockets and it's just as easy to use. After a lot of standing around and staring at all the different colours I finally went for the gold one. It's a really pretty pale gold that I think looks really classy. Although the silver is just as pretty.

As soon as I got back to Manchester I got straight online to order myself some cases to protect my beautiful phone! I ended up choosing a selection from Ebay for about £2 each! So far this is the only one that has arrived and I love it! I've seen this quote a few times before and it's so fitting now that I am a fashion student! Can't want to share the other 2 with you when they arrive either.

Having previously had a phone with 16GB and constantly having problems with storage and have to delete everything to save space I decided to go for a bigger memory. I now have 64GB so I don't think I am going to be filling that any time soon. Although I did add a lot of music and all my old photos and it's surprising how much space that takes up!

Quick sorry for the lack of posts recently. I'm currently in the middle of my first lot of university exams which is getting a little stressful! But this time next week they will all be over, so expect a few going out outfits next weekend! xx

Spencer Hastings Inspired Outfit

Spencer Hastings Inspired Outfit

Katherine Penney Chic Fashion Style Inspiration Preppy

Recently I have been watching A LOT of Pretty Little Liars. It finally come on Netflix about 2 weeks ago and since then my life hasn't been the same! It's a really great show and if you liked Gossip Girl, Vampire Diaries, 90210 etc then you should definitely try and watch it. I've just started Season 3 and I'm totally hooked! And while I could talk for hours about my theories and who I think A might be it's the fashion that I really want to talk about.

Like most of these kind of TV shows the fashion is really on point. Each of the girls have a really individual style that really shows of each of their personalities. And while I love them all for me I find Spencer's style most wearable and easiest to replicate with items I already have in my closet.

For those of you who haven't seen PLL and don't really know what I am talking about Spencer is the "smart" one in the group. Her style is smart, tailored and very preppy. So I put together my own every day Spencer inspired outfit. Hope you like it.

Katherine Penney Chic Fashion Style Inspiration Preppy

A simple ponytail can be made to look a whole lot smarter with a little hair bow. This one is really cute and adds a little pop of colour to a simple outfit.

Katherine Penney Chic Fashion Style Inspiration Preppy

I paired this lace collared and cuffed shirt from ASOS with a slouchy 3/4 sleeved cardigan from H&M. Then I kept it simple with some smart dark wash jeans and my new leather boots.

Katherine Penney Chic Fashion Style Inspiration Preppy

I am so in love with these boots at the moment. I've wanted a pair of smart brown boots like this for ages so when I saw these in the sale in my local shoe shop I knew I needed them. Being real leather they were still quite an investment but I know I'll get a lot of wear out of them and if I look after them they should last me years.

Katherine Penney Chic Fashion Style Inspiration Preppy

I kept my jewellery very understated with my gold watch and simple studs and my makeup very natural as I love how Spencer uses makeup to enhance her natural beauty, not hide it.

Hope you liked this post. I love taking inspiration from other people's styles recreating them myself. Let me know in the comments below what you think and as any A theories! Although keep in mind I've only just started Season 3. No spoilers please! xx

Born Pretty Store Lip Products

Born Pretty Makeup Lip Products

Last month I was given the opportunity to try out a couple of lip products from the Born Pretty Makeup line. They have an amazing website that sells everything a girrl could ever want from makeup, to clothes to handbags to adorable stationary. Plus the prices are absolutely amazing and they have free shipping world wide! You can check out their website here

Katherine Penney Chic Born Pretty Makeup Review

The two products that I picked to review were this Tutu Lip Exfoliating Gel and this beautiful pink lipstick. The lip exfoliating gel is so easy to use, you just put a little bit of the product onto your finger and then massage it gently into your lips. And after you have done you can just wipe it off with a tissue. What I really love about this one is that it's really gentle and the exfoliating beads are really fine, as at the moment winter has left my lips feeling very sensitive.

Katherine Penney Chic Born Pretty Makeup Review

The Tutu lip exfoliator left my lips feeling so lovely. It not only exfoliated but also moisturised and as you can see from the picture left my lips feeling super plump. This is a great step to add into your rountine every now and again as it really preps your lips for a product, especially if you are going to be wearing a matte lip product. You can pick this one up here for just over £2!

Katherine Penney Chic Born Pretty Makeup Review

It took me a long time to pick out a colour of these lipsticks as they had so many lovely ones which you can have a look at here, In the end I went for shade 05 a beautiful summery pink. Yes, as soon as Christmas and NYE are over I'm already thinking about summer! This lipstick is really nice and glossy and worked even better after I had used the exfoliating lip gel. It's a really pretty natural color so I think that this would be a perfect shade to pair with a smoky eye  look.

Katherine Penney Chic Born Pretty Makeup Review

I am in love with this beautiful pink shade and I know that it is going to be such a staple for me in summer.

I hope that this little product review with introduce you to an amazing new brand and you will go and check out their website. Born Pretty has huge discounts on nearly all of their products already but they were also kind enough to give me a little discount code to share with all of you. To get 10% off your order you can use the code PENH10. Hope you enjoy scrolling through the lovely website. I've literally just spent the last hour adding so many different things to my basket that I want to try out!

Disclaimer: I was sent these products and wrote an honest review of them to share with you. However this was not a sponsored post and I was not paid to write any of this.

The Little Black Dress

The Little Black Dress

I went out last night to see a few old school friends and I wanted to take the opportunity to show you one of my most love dresses at the moment. This little black dress was from H&M a few months ago and I can't stop wearing it. I wore it on a few nights out at university, I wore it on New Years Eve and last night when I had no idea what to wear this is what I grabbed.

I do think that a little black dress is something that every girl and woman needs. It's just so effortless yet sophisticated. Mine was so reasonable for something like £20 but I think the lace, the shape and the little capped lace sleeves make it look a lot more expensive. I like to keep my jewellery really simple when I wear this so the dress stands out more. Usually just my silver heart necklace and some pearl earrings. And what I really love about this dress at this time of year is that I can wear black tights with it to keep my legs warm and it still looks elegant. It's just so practical!

So if you haven't got one already I really recommend a little black dress. Even if you don't wear a lot of black any other time I think a dress can suit everyone. It's a real wardrobe staple.

Caught! Always on my phone!

Hope you guys are all well. Guessing most people will be back at school and work already. I'm heading back to university this Saturday. And while I really want to see my friends I don't really want to leave my family and my house.

Also, life news. I passed my driving test yesterday with only 1 minor! :) So happy and so glad that I have got it out the way before I go back. xx

My 2014 Beauty Favourites

My 2014 Beauty Favourites

Katherine Penney Chic Beauty Favourites 2014

I'm finally getting around to doing my 2014 beauty favourite. I love watching these videos and reading these posts. A lot of people do this in categories and talk about their favourite foundation and then concealer and then powder etc. Being fairly new to beauty blogging I firstly don't think that I have enough products to do that and secondly thought rather than trying to find things purely to fill a certain category I would just talk about the products that I have found and tried this year that have really impressed me.

Garnier Micellar Water
When I first tried this I really wasn't too sure about it. Before I had only been using wipes to take of my makeup and this was nothing like I'd ever used before. I did a whole blogpost which you can find here back in May where I talk about the pros and cons. Since then I haven't actually used anything else to take of my makeup. It's so much more gentle than any wipes and it takes everything off with just a few cotton pads. Plus it's a total bargain.

Dove Summer Glow Nourishing Lotion
I like to look a little bronzed as much as the next girl and sometimes we just have to fake it a little. I've never really been a fake tan girl, I get scared that it's going to go horribly wrong and one day I'll wake up orange or my beautiful white sheets will turn brown. Instead I've been using gradual tanner for years now and I think this one is my favourite. I use the shade medium to dark usually as then I only need one application for a visible tan. What I really love about this gradual tanner is that unlike a lot of others that I have tried the undertones are bronze not orange which makes it a lot more natural.

La Roche-Posay
There is huge hype going on about this stuff in the beauty community as it is now available in the UK - yay! I've been loving this since I picked it up in Paris as the beginning of summer. I just use it as a toner after my face wash and before a moisturiser. It's hard to put it down to one product as I have changed a few things in my skincare routine this year but I honestly think this is what has cleared up a lot of the little bumps that I used to have all over my face.

L'Oreal Elvive Extraordinary Oil
I have pretty thick hair but it is also very dry and this summer with the heat and swimming my hair really started to dry out. With Moroccan Oil not in my budget I picked this up hoping it would be similar and I have been really impressed. I used to use about 10 different hair products after I washed my hair and now this is the only one that I really reach for. It de-frizzes and really moisturises my hair as well as leaving it smelling amazing. If I don't use this then my hair can dry into a frizzy static afro!

Elegant Touch Rapid Dry For Nail
This has honestly been such a life saver this year. Basically you paint your nails and then spray them with a bit of this and it helps them to dry so much quicker. I think it takes a little longer than 60 seconds like it says on the bottle but it's still such a great product.

Bourjois Healthy Balance Powder
I absolutely love this product. It's the most amazing powder that gets rid of shine without getting rid of a glow. It lasts for months as it is so fine and I love the practically of the thin pot and the big mirror. If you haven't already you really need to try this.

Sephora Black Eyeliner
This is such a great eyeliner. It's super pigmented, super black and super long so it's going to last me for a while. Hopefully until I can get my hands on another one!

Real Techniques Buffing Blush
For months now this is all I have used to apply any foundation or BB cream. It's soft, so easy to work with and the hairs don't fall out the brush. This whole set by Real Techniques is a really great one and I hope this year I get to try out more of their brushes.

Revlon Colorburst Lacquer Balm - Enticing
This year I was totally blown away by this whole range from Revlon, the lacquer and the matte balms. They are a great price for amazing quality and I just love the packaging. This red is quite bright but I think that it really suits me. It's glossy and last for ages too. And the colour has been a real staple this last month.

Maybelline Colorsensational Shine Gloss
This was the lipgloss that converted me back to lipgloss. For years I'd avoided wearing lipgloss as I hated the sticky feel and the hair issues it caused. But I love this product, especially the colour Cashmere Rose. It's a beautiful pinky coral that looks really natural and is glossy without being sticky. This year I really want to try out a few more colours from this range too.

The Body Shop Indian Night Jasmine Perfume
This is one of the scents that I have really been loving this year. It smells a little bit spicy and a little bit fruity. To be honest I don't really know how to describe it (you'll just have to go and sniff it yourself!) but I've got a lot of complements wearing this. And my boyfriend loves it which is always a good thing!
The other scent that I have also been loving this year is Marc Jacobs Daisy Dream. It smells floral and fresh which I really love. Sadly at the moment it's back at uni, I didn't want to risk it with such a beautiful bottle. But I did still want to include it.

NuNail Cream Nail Strengthener
This year I really suffered from dry flaking nails. I tried a lot of different treatments and while my nails are still nowhere near perfect this has really helped my. Whenever I get a chance I just massage this into each of my nails and it really moisturises them. A great cheap product!

Essie Nail Polish - Parka Perfect
You can read the full review and see some picture of this polish here. I love Essie polishes anyway but this is just such a beautiful unusual colour. It's really flattering and I think that it would work all year round.

Rimmel Space Dust - Aurora
I really need to pick up a new one of these as I think it's nearly finished and starting to go a little gloopy. But I am so in love with this shade it's like a beautiful rose golden glitter. What I love most about this glitter polish is how you need one coat and your good to go. It takes ages to even chip and it just look gorgeous. I think this would have to be one of my favourite nail polishes of all time!

Hope you all had a lovely 2014. Sorry again that this post is a little late but I hope that you still enjoy reading this and maybe find some new products that you want to try out this year. Comment down below any product that you were loving in 2014, I'd love to hear.

A Few Sale Purchases

A Few Sale Purchases

Katherine Penney Chic Sale Shopping 2015 Shoes Jewellery

This year (being a student now!) I haven't gone too crazy in the sales. But I did want to quickly share with you a few things that I have picked up as I love them all.

Katherine Penney Chic Sale Shopping 2015 Shoes Jewellery

The first place that I couldn't resist going to was my favourite shop Accessorize. They have a great sale and so many lovely things. I was very tempted by several handbags and clutches but in the end I chose a few pieces of jewellery. The first is this really dainty gold flower necklace which I justified with the fact that I have been wearing a lot more gold jewellery recently and I don't have an everyday gold pendent. I also picked up two quite summer pairs of earrings. The first are these super adorable elephant earrings and being my favourite animal I couldn't leave without them. The second are pale pink feather earrings which I have never been brave enough to wear before but these are just so pretty and I can't wait to style them.

Katherine Penney Chic Sale Shopping 2015 Shoes Jewellery

I've been needing a pair of smarter black pumps for a long time now. All that I had before these were my old school shoes which have definitely seen better days. I feel in love with these ones from Office when I saw them. They had my size left and they fit perfectly. I love the little gold studs and I think that these look a lot more expensive that the £18 that they were!

Have you guys been sale shopping yet? I'd love to hear in the comments about any bargains that you found. xx

Happy New Year

Happy New Year

Katherine Penney Chic New Year Eve Party Girls

Hope you all had a lovely evening last night. Can't believe that it is already 2015! But we have been given a chance to start a fresh and forget the worries of last year. I hope that you all have an amazing year.

Work hard. Be kind. Laugh more.
xx

The picture is from my evening last night with my friends.

The 2014 Year Jar

The 2014 Year Jar

Writing this I just can't believe that 2014 is over. Most people probably say that every year to be honest but 2014 has been a really great year for me.

For me 2014 marked huge changes in my life. The most obvious being leaving Sixth Form and going off to university in Manchester. And while I'm sad to leave and move away from old friends I've met some amazing new people and discovered an amazing new place which I am now able to call my second home.

This time last year I was in a very different place in my life. I had been knocked and I was very insecure and unsure about what I was doing and my plans for the future. In 2014 I turned over a new leaf and tried to be more positive. Inspired by Pinterest (as is increasingly the case) this year I kept something that I like to call a year jar. Every time that something happens or I do something that makes me feel happy I write it down on a little piece of paper, fold it up small and put it in the jar. It's just anything big or small that made me smile and feel good, from getting to university to finishing a good book or having a nice coffee catch up with an old friend. Then at the end of 2014 I can open up all the little bits of paper with my happy memories and it will remind me what a great year this has been.

I think this is a really inspiring and beautiful idea that more people should try. It keeps me feeling positive and reminds me not to take the little things for granted.

I also wanted to share with you pictures from some of my favourite moments of 2014.
