Autumnal Makeup Favourites

Autumnal Makeup Favourites

thumb_img_4805_1024

I'm sitting in my bedroom writing this blogpost and my hands are so cold it is almost hard to type! So while it currently feels more like Winter right now I thought it was about time I got around to talking about some of my Autumn makeup favourites.

thumb_img_4808_1024

As cliche as it is, a darker lip is one of my favourite makeup looks for this time of year. And both of my favourite shades are from Rimmel, so very inexpensive. Rimmel's Lasting Finish Lipstick in shade 128 Starry-Eyed has been my go to berry shade for a few years now, and I know I have spoken about this a few times on my blog. So I though I would introduce you to a new darker lip favourite; Rimmel's Lasting Finish by Kate in shade 48. This is a deeper brown toned colour and definietly fitting with the whole 90's trend which is still around. I find that this colour really suites my skin tones and makes my brown eyes pop. Especially with a subtle brown smokey eye and lashings of black mascara. I like to wear this during the day time dabbed onto my lips over some lipbalm, or full on colour for evenings. And the finish of these are beautiful so they last for ages!

Green eyeshadow, I know what your thinking! Sounds awful and probably reminds you of that lime green eyeshadow you got free once in a Pop magazine and used to smudge all over you lids as a child! But I'm talking about a beautiful shimmery emerald green, which FYI is my favourite colour at the moment. Maybe I'll have to do a whole blogpost on all of the emerald green additions I've been making to my wardrobe! This lovely eyeshadow from The Body Shop makes for a gorgeous and different evening smokey eye. Or take a little bit on a thin liner brush for pretty day time look.

My final Autumn favourites are jewel toned nails, particularly these stunning Essie shades. After a Summer of whites and pastels it's lovely to pick up those rich colours that just feel and look so luxurious. Burgundy on your nails at this time of year is a classic, but can sometimes be a bit over done. I think navy is a colour that people often forget, but it looks just as sophisticated. And finally back to the emerald green which I am also loving wearing on my nails.

Essie Shades:

  • Bobbing for baubles

  • Midnight Cami

  • Sugar Daddy

  • Going Incognito

  • Thigh High

  • Trophy Wife

Only a couple of weeks now and it will be Winter! And I can't wait to start getting all Christmassy!

Speak soon xx

Rimmel Extra Super Lash Mascara

Rimmel Extra Super Lash Mascara

Katherine Penney Chic Rimmel Mascara Makeup Beauty Review

I picked this up about a couple of months ago when it was recommended to me by a friend who always has amazing lashes. However in my rush I managed to pick up the brown/black mascara which is something that I never usually do. At first I was a bit upset and felt like I had wasted my money, but I couldn't take it back as I have already opened the packaging.

However I decided to give it ago anyway and I have been really liking it. It's quite a natural mascara although it can be built up to something quite bold. I used this for my everyday makeup which I like to be quite natural. I also usually wear a lot of brown and beige eyeshadows and liners so this brown/black mascara actually works really well with this look and is much more natural.

The one think that I would say about this mascara is that you have to spend a little bit of time scraping the product back into the tube so that there isn't too much on the wand and your mascara isn't too clumpy. But to be honest I end up doing this with every mascara I use anyway so I don't find this too much of a problem.

Makeup brands release a new mascara all the time and advertise it like crazy. This Rimmel mascara has been around for years and the fact that it is still being produced I think shows that it is obviously a good one. You hardly ever hear people talk about it though so I hope that this post has been helpful. And for less than  £5 I really recommend trying this mascara out. Although the colour choice is totally up to you! xx

Katherine Penney Chic Red Nail Polish Manicure Essie Style Beauty Review

If you have been reading my blog for a while then you may have noticed that I don't really wear a lot of colour. I like to stick with monochrome, grey, navy and light blue and occasionally a pale pink! But last week the weather was so beautiful and something suddenly made me want to rush to Boots to buy my first ever red nail polish!

Katherine Penney Chic Red Nail Polish Manicure Essie Style Beauty Review

The one that I chose was this slightly coral red from Rimmel which is part of the new Rita Ora collection. As far as the colour goes I think it is the perfect red for this time of year. It's bright and uplifting and looks so chic with a white top and denim jeans. I also love the brush of Rimmel nail polishes and the way that it applied. But sadly by about the second day this was already chipping, badly. I haven't really had this problem with other Rimmel nail polishes before. So maybe I'll have to try this out again with a different base coat of something as I really do love the colour.

I'm just about to get the train to Durham to see my boyfriend for the weekend now. I hope that you all have a lovely weekend. Let me know in the comments below if you have tried this nail polish and if you had a problem with chipping. xx

Essie Shearling Darling and Rimmel Glitter Bomb Top Coat

Essie Shearling Darling and Rimmel Glitter Bomb Top Coat

After the Christmas lights turn on and a day spent wondering around the Manchester Christmas markets I am starting to feel super festive! So when it came to painting my nails a few days ago I decided to go for something a little Christmassy!

Both the nail polishes that I chose are new to me so I really wanted to share with you what I thought of them. The first is Essie's Shearling Darling polish which is a really sophisticated dark red/maroon and perfect for this time of year. Like pretty much all of the Essie nail polishes that I have tried it is amazing quality and a lovely thick brush. For top coat I chose the Rimmel glitter bomb top coat in Disco Diva because I am a sucker for anything sparkly! Especially at this time of year! It's fine silver glitter with larger pink glitter and look just beautiful when it catches the light. And I found that over a colour one coat of this is perfect.

I really love this combination of polishes but to be honestly I think that this glitter top coat would look great over a lot of colours and I can't wait to try it over other shades!

Hope you are all well. Exactly one month until Christmas now! :D xx

Rimmel Rita Ora Nail Polish In Pillow Talk

Rimmel Rita Ora Nail Polish In Pillow Talk

In my opinion Rimmel does the best drugstore nail polishes. The formula is amazing, the brush is nice and thick and they dry super fast. I saw this colour as part of Rita Ora's collection for Rimmel and just fell in love with it. I had been looking for ages for a very pale baby blue for Spring but couldn't find one that I felt was pale enough for what I was looking for.

I picked this up in Boots the other day and applied it basically as soon as I got home. It took two coats for a really opaque colour but it dried so quickly. I was a little disappointed with the colour to be honest. It's still a lovely blue shade that I think looks really nice in summer but it just wasn't the shade that I though I had picked up. The blue is a lot brighter and darker than I had hope or than it looks in the bottle. I'm not sure if you can see this in the photo but there is a difference. I will still try and use this colour and I have a Barry M one in a very similar shade to this and I definitely prefer the Rimmel one.

But for now my search for the perfect very pale blue continues. I have my eye on Essie "Blue and Borrowed" so if anyone has tried this I'd really love to know if it is really pale or not. And if you know a shade of very pale blue that I might be interested in then I'd love to know in the comments below. Thank you :)

Rimmel Matte BB Cream 9-in-1

Rimmel Matte BB Cream 9-in-1

I've never been one for a heavy foundation, in fact I've never bought a foundation at all! One day... But a couple of years or so ago when I started getting more into makeup and wearing skin makeup BB creams were right up my street. I wanted something to cover but not cake and that is exactly what they offer.

I've wanted to talk about this BB cream for a while but haven't got round to it until now. Firstly I don't have oily skin and if anything my skin is more combination/dry so I think calling this product matte is a bit misleading. I picked this up about 4 months ago now as needed a new BB cream, like Rimmel as a brand and this one looked good (on the adverts, but hey!). As soon as I used it I was just amazed. It covered everything that I wanted to be covered, all my blemishes and uneven skin, but it did look cakey, which surprised me as being "matte" I had half expected it too. The lasting power of this is also really great and I don't think I can say enough good things about it. I wear it to school everyday and to parties and dinners out in the evening and it works for both without making me break out.

The only thing that I could fault though is the shade range. I wouldn't say that I am particularly pale but the light shade is the perfect colour for me, and normally I am more of a medium. So if you are very pale then maybe this is not the right product for you. But apart from that even if you have dry skin and you feel like putting a matte product on your face would be a bad idea I would really recommend you give this ago. I have a little collection of these not just in case it runs out so I will never ave to go without it!

Rimmel London Space Dust Review

Rimmel London Space Dust Review

I bought the golden pink colour, Aurora  from Boot on a 3 for 2 offer at the beginning of November. It looked pretty and as it was nearing Christmas I was having a bit of a glitter moment. I only expected it to be a thin glitter top coat nail polish so when I used it I was pretty amazed at how thick it was. I can't think of another nail polish to compare this to as I have never used anything with this texture. Its so glittery and thick so basically one coat and you're good to go. And it dries to a rough and almost 3D so you don't need to use a top coat and mine lasted several days without chipping at all too.

So after I was so impressed by this product I went out to buy the silver shade, Shooting star and the black/green, Total eclipse. How pretty are the nail polish names? They all absolutely gorgeous and by far the best glitter nail polish that I have used. The only thing that I will say is that you do have to have a bit of patience when it comes to removing them. I recommend that you hold a cotton pad soaked in nail polish remover on the nail before rubbing it off. But it is totally worth it for how beautiful they look and how many compliments I get when wearing this polish.

There is also a hot pink, Luna Love and a purple shade, Moon walking in the collection. And for only £3.99 each you can't really go wrong. And now I feel like I should buy the final two just to complete my collection...
