Why You Need a Shacket...Now!

Shackets are back on trend for yet another Spring, meaning that if you haven't already got one, you need one. For those of you that are a little confused right now, a shacket is a shirt-jacket hybrid. Genius. Which makes it the perfect transitional piece. Having borrowed by sister's camo style one the whole of last year I knew it was about time that I got one myself. I wanted a plain khaki one with some kind of detail to make it a bit different. Classic, but with a modern twist. So when I saw this one from Mint Velvet a few months ago I was obsessed. Show me pretty much anything with stars and I am sold!

However, as a student with absolutely zero income it was very out of my budget, so I pinned it to my Wishlist board on Pinterest and waited. I watched as it fell from £140 to £79 in the January sales, but decided it was still too much. And then I painfully watched as my size sold out just before the price fell again to £59. I think that actual tears were shed over a shacket that evening! But I prayed and I waited and sure enough the jacket came back in stock. A single size 8 was on Mint Velvet for £59 the other day! So I added it to my basket and paid with Paypal before I had a chance to think about how how deep I already was in my overdraft.

The shacket arrived and it is everything I could have hoped for and more. Plus I totally understand what all the hype around shackets is about, they are so versatile. Mine arrived 3 days ago and I have already worn it twice. The first time I wore it (shown in these pictures) was a slightly warmer Saturday. I wore it with a breton stripe top, black jeans and black boots and I love the combination of different prints and the outfit still looked really put together. Today was a lot colder, and wetter, so this time I wore an M&S thermal (lets keep it real), a thin grey knit slightly tucked in to a pair of dark denim skinny jeans and then the same black boots. Another very simple outfit, but that just looks so cool! Pinterest is also amazing for more inspiration of how to style your shacket. I saw someone pair theirs with a black leather which looked so good. Or a little slip dress for when it is a bit warmer. You could dress it up with heels and black leather pants. Or dress it down with a grey hoodie...very "street style". Basically the list is endless!

Now is the best time to buy as the high street has so many options. Although just a warning that you do have to be a little savvy about what you are searching for. Not all retailers are down with the fashion lingo. If you search shacket on H&M it will autocorrect to Shark and boys t-shirt will show up! They are often list under "cargo jacket" or "utility jacket" so try searching for that too!

Space Party Galaxy Makeup

Space Party Galaxy Makeup

Last night I went to a huge space themed party held by my university to celebrate the end of exams. I didn't really know what to go as and I didn't want to spent a lot of money on a crazy costume. All I did know that what I just wanted to take the opportunity to wear a lot of sequins and glitter!

I ordered a little black sequin dress of Ebay for £10 as my costume and then I was just going to do some really cool makeup to dress it up. I probably spent hours in total scrolling through pinterest and WeHeartIt for inspiration on space themed makeup. But in the end I combined a few different looks and this is what I came up with.

The makeup look I went for was a galaxy swirl/black hole around just my right eye. I started off with a white eyeshadow and did a white swirl under my eye to my cheekbone and then under my eyebrow to my nose. I then gradually darken the eyeshadow for the rest of the look from silver to grey and then to black. I made sure to really blend everything out so that the gradient looked smooth as it faded out. I then applied some Barry M glitter dust over the swirl, concentrating it on the white eyeshadow. Finally I used a Collection silver liquid liner and a glitter liner to draw on a few stars of all different sizes.

For my left eye I just did a bit of a smoky eye in similar colour with the black and silver. I also decided to wear some pretty long false lashes from Collection for about £3. I don't often wear fake lashes but these ones are pretty simple to put on and I love how they look on a night out.

On my nails I wore the silver Rimmel Space Dust which I thought was pretty fitting and kept with my glittery theme.

Hope you liked this different kind of makeup up post! So happy that my exams have finally finished and I can't wait to get back into a routine of blogging more often. Speak soon xx

Christmas Party Outfit - Sequins and Stars

Christmas Party Outfit - Sequins and Stars

Katherine Penney Chic Fashion Beauty Outfit Makeup Christmas Party

Last night I had a Christmas party with all the people from my School. It was so lovely to see everyone again and find out what they have been getting up to at work or university. Since coming home from university I haven't really gone out so I wanted to take this opportunity to dress up a little and spend more time on my hair and makeup.

This was the outfit that I decided to wear last night, I am absolutely in love with these jeans that I picked up from Primark a couple of years ago. They fit really well and I think that they look a lot more expensive than they really were. I paired them with a white blouse, statement necklace, black heeled boots and my sequin clutch.

Jeans - Primark
White top - French Connection
Necklace - Accessorize
Clutch - Accessorize
Watch - Nixon
Bracelet - Pandora
Nails - Revlon 570 Vixen

For my makeup I wanted to do a little bit of a smokey eye. So I started with a silver in the inner corners then blending to a shimmery grey. I in my crease instead of black I used a navy to pick up the colour from my jeans and clutch. It doesn't look quite as harsh and it is a lot easier to work with. Then I used some black eyeliner on my waterline, a lot of mascara and a glossy natural lip to complete the look.

Can't believe that it is Christmas Eve already!! I'm so excited for Christmas and presents, and yummy food and Christmas films and funny family games. Hope you all have the most amazing Christmas.

Merry Christmas!

Starry Eyed

Starry Eyed

Okay, so I am still stuck in my star obsessed phase. So I thought that I would do a quick post of the things that I have really been loving recently. I think that as soon as it start to get sunnier and warmer outside I will find a new colour or print obsession. But for now I am totally starry eyed over star print.

  • Jack Wills Navy Top - so you may recognise this from my A Little Sale Shopping post. Well I love this top so much. My favourite thing has been to dress it up with a statement necklace, dark jeans and a black blazer for a smart evening out look.
  • Monsoon Grey Jumper - I love Monsoon jumpers, they are so pretty and feminine and they are such good quality. But they are also a little over my budget. I got this one for Christmas a couple of years back and it is still one of my favourite items of clothing.
  • Zara White Top - Zara do some really great basic tops in a wide range of different prints and colours and they aren't overly expensive. This one is loose fitting and I have to wear a cami underneath it, but it looks really pretty and casual.
  • Double Star Necklace - I got this in my stocking this Christmas after I chose it from a Christmas fair in Kensington that I went to with my mum. It was only £10 but I think it looks a lot more expensive and it dresses up any outfit perfectly.
  • Star Ring - I bought this last summer in St Ives after I decided that I wanted to start wearing rings more. I love how they look but I don't have very many nice simple ones that I can wear everyday. What I really love about this one is that it is adjustable which means I can change the size depnding on which finger I want to wear it on. Plus it doesn't leave that horrible green line on my finger.
  • Star Earring - these actually can with the necklace and are really lovely. I usually wear small simply earrings to school or when I am wearing a necklace and these are a pretty alternative to pearl or silver studs.
Star print is definitely a more Christmas/Winter trend I think so while the weather in England is showing no sign of ever welcoming Spring I'm just gonna be rocking the star print. Is there any trend, colour or print that you have been obsessed with recently?

A little sale shopping...

A little sale shopping...

January wouldn't be January without a little bit of sale shopping. And this year I managed to do all of mine without leaving my desk. One of my New Years resolutions this year has been to only buy things that I truly love. What's the point in buying a top for £5 in the sale if you never wear it? It's not a bargain, just a waste of money.

So I'm totally obsessed with all of these items and can't wait to wear them. I'm having a bit of a star print obsession at the moment and the navy top is just my favourite thing right now.
So if you haven't already done some sale shopping, hurry, cus I feel like I'm snatching up all the good stuff!

Jack Wills Star print top - Was £24.50  Now £19.00
