March Favourites

March Favourites

thumb_IMG_2612_1024

I'm so sad that April is here already which means that I only have one week left of my Easter holiday and so much that I want to do. After my operation it feels like I have lost a whole week lying in bed doing nothing! Anyway, I guess this means we are that bit closer to Summer which is exciting. So here are some of the things that I have been loving this last month.

The Body Shop Shea Body Butter
I am sure that I have talked about this before on my blog. This is my favourites scent from the Body Shop, it just smells fresh and reminds me of summer. This body butter is so thick and moisturising, so before be I have been slathering it on really dry patches like elbows and knees.

Simple Soothing Eye Cream
I always use an eye cream, but it is hard to find on that isn't so thick it feels like it is dragging on your eyes. This one is so light and a little bit goes a long way so I use this before bed and sometimes before my makeup in the morning. It's also really reasonably priced.

PINK Sweet and Flirty Body Mist
This just smells incredible! I have been trying to ration this before Summer so it lasts because it is really more of a Summer scent. But since I've come back home and rediscovered this on my shelf I've found myself reaching for it every morning.

L'Occitane Shea Butter Lip Balm
I didn't actually realise this was also Shea Butter until I picked it out for my favourites! Guess it is definietly my favourite scent! This is more of a before bed lip balm or for really dry lips. It's so moisturising and lasts a really long time but I don't think this would work as well under a lipstick.

Percy and Reed London Wonder Balm
I forgot about this stuff for a while but I have been really getting back into using this after I wash my hair. Even though you are putting product in your hair it doesn't feel like it. My hair feels lighter, but volumised. And again, a little bit goes a long way.

Maybelline 24hr Colour Tattoo - Creme de Rose
The Maybelline colour tattoos are just amazing! I have four already and think I am going to have to dedicate a whole blogpost to them sometime soon. This shade is just the perfect base colour, so I use it pretty much everyday that I am wearing makeup. It also looks great on its own with some liner and mascara ora light brown in the crease.

Monthly favourites are some of my favourite posts to read so if you have also written one then link it in the comments below and we can all share the products that we have been loving this month.

February Favourites

Katherine Penney Chic Blogger Beauty Monthly Favourites Pretty White Pastel February

It's March! And I am so ready for the weather to start getting warmer now. All the shops have started stocking all of their new summer stock and I can't wait for all the pretty dresses, lace and pastel colours.

But for now lets talk about what I have been loving in the last month.

Katherine Penney Chic Blogger Beauty Monthly Favourites Pretty White Pastel February

Taking Polaroids

The first thing I have been loving is using my polaroid again. I took it to Durham and Jack and I took some really cute photos. I forgot how nice it was to be able to keep little memories like that.

Nivea Hydro Care Lip Balm

Another old favourite, that is sadly coming to an end. But This is really such an amazing everyday lip balm. It's so hydrating, and when I'm out and about I like that this is in stick form so I don't have to stick my finger in it!

Herbal Essences Clearly Naked Dry Shampoo

This is a new favourite for this month as my dry shampoo ran out and I needed to get a new one. I'm ashamed to say that is was actually the pretty white packaging that drew me to this one. But what I love is how it leaves my hair feeling really light and fresh and not like I have just applied a load of product. Also it smells lovely and fresh too!

Katherine Penney Chic Blogger Beauty Monthly Favourites Pretty White Pastel February

H&M Lipstick - Fareham Brick

On days where I am looking a bit tired or my skin is playing up (or both!) I have been using this lovely red lipstick to detract from the rest of my face! This one is so easy to apply, so long lasting and I think the shade is just the perfect brick red. I've been wearing this with a striped breton top, my trench coat and lots of mascara

Essie Grow Strong Base Coat

I bought this a while back and it actually lasted a really long time, but when it finally ran out last month I realised how much I loved it. I have been wearing this a lot to try and strengthen and grow my nails again. It's so easy to apply (Essie brushes really are the best) and even on its own leaves a subtle pretty pink.

ZARA Floral Bouquet Perfume

I bought this earlier on in February and I really can't stop reaching for this one in the morning. It's definiely more of a Spring/Summer scent but it just smells so good right now! I actually did a full post on my first impressions of Zara perfumes here which you can have a read of.

Hope you all had a lovely month and are as excited for Spring as I am! Let me know in the comments below if you have tried any of my favourites and what you though of them, or what you have been loving over the last month.

January Favourites

January Favourites

thumb_IMG_2255_1024

The fact that my monthly favourites appear to have a slight colour scheme makes me very happy! So the first month of 2016 is over and I have a few new favourites as well as some old loves to share with you.

Urban Decay Naked 3 Palette

In December is was all about the gold eyeshadow and red lips, so this month I have really been enjoying something a bit more natural. These pinky, rose gold shades as so pretty and are getting me in the mood for some pretty Valentines Day makeup! Also the dark purple shade looks great as a smokey eyeliner along the top lash line to really make brown eye pop.

Sanctuary Spa Velvety Hand Cream

Just like lip balms I have so many different hand creams in different bags and all over my bedroom. However this one is by far my favourite. I find that a lot of hand creams just make my hands feel greasy and then dry again an hour later. This one smells lovely and is really so moisturising. Probably going to have to repurchase this when it runs out, which doesn't happen very often.

Rimmel London Wake Me Up Concealer

I'm never really loyal to a concealer as I still don't think I have found the perfect one. However of all the ones I have tried I think this is my favourite. It's my perfect shade right now and feels so light on my skin. The only think is I wish it was a little bit thicker for a little more coverage. Back to uni and the bags under my eyes are already so bad...

bareMinerals Powder Foundation

I think a mix of alcohol and lots of chocolate made my skin very unhappy this Christmas. So I wore more foundation to cover it all up and then it got worse so the cycle continued. After my exams in January I went home and was makeup free for almost a week. My skin cleared up a lot and now I have been really enjoying wearing something a lot lighter. I stopped wearing this a few months ago as the shade I had was way too dark once I lost my Summer tan. However this new pot is the perfect colour and feels just like skin.

Essie Urban Jungle

This was one of the Essie nail polishes that I got in my stocking for Christmas. It's such a lovely of white shade that looks so pretty with every outfit. And of course, Essie just do the best nail polish formula.

Maybelline Cream Blush - Shade 02

I bought this a while back and loved it so I don't really know why I stopped using it. But recently I have really got back into using this to achieve a lovely healthy glow. It's such a pretty shade that will be perfect for Spring.

Olivia Palermo for Ciaté London Lipstick - Praline

I only acutally got this right at the end of January but I had to include it as I have worn it pretty much everyday since. It is such a beautiful natural shade and has a really velvety texture.

Hope everyone had a lovely start to 2016! And with Pancake Day next week and then Valentines Day after that there is so much to look forward to! Speak soon xx

November Favourites

November Favourites

Katherine Penney Chic Beauty Makeup Blogger Bblogger Monthly Favourites November Shampoo Conditioner Hair Lipstick Nail polish

It's December! Which means it is time for November favourites. I tried explaining it to my dad the other day and it got so confused about why I would want to talk about things I loved last month! He suggested that I start a post series about things that I have planned or am looking forward to in the coming month which actually sounds like a nice idea to me. Anyway, here are some of the products I have been loving in November.

Cocoa Butter Formula Natural Bronze Body Spray
My tan from Summer had completely faded and I just looked so ghostly. I am all for embracing your natural colour and I am really not a fan of that fake orange look. But the issue was that I didn't have any colour! I picked this up and used it once and noticed a subtle difference the next day. It's just a healthy natural bit of colour which I used every now and again when I am starting to feel a little pale. Although when the Christmas parties start happening and my legs have to come out of hibernation I might have to use a little more of this!

Soap and Glory Brow Archery
I won't say too much about this product as I have already written a whole post on how much I love this which you can read here. I am definitely no brow expert but this makes nice, well-groomed fuller brows so easy.

Herbal Essencses Moroccan Shine Shampoo and Conditioner
I love Aussie, don't get me wrong. But I was starting to get a lot of build up in my hair and it seemed to need washing a lot more often. My friend was telling me how every now and again it is actually good for your hair to change up your shampoo and conditioner. I picked these up as they sounded perfect for my dry and sometimes frizzy hair, but mostly because they smell so good! One think I haver really noticed since using these is that my hair feels really weightless and soft which I love.

Revlon Nail Polish in Vixen
This has been on my nails most of this month. It is just that perfect winter berry shade that looks so classic and elegant. Revlon nail polishes have a really great formula that looks so lovely and glossy. I just which they had a slightly bigger brush like Essie nail polishes.

Topshop Lipstick in Mink
I think I have finally found my perfect lipstick shade! I bought this one a while back and have recently fallen in love with it again. It is a "your lips but better" shade with brown undertones that looks really natural. I have been wearing this pretty much everyday in November. I wear it over lip balm on days when I don't wear any makeup and I wear it in the evening to complement a smokey eye. The texture is silky and smooth, and isn't drying or sticky which are two of my pet hates with lip products. And the fact that this is less than £10 means that if you don't have it you need it, now!

Hope everyone had a great November. But lets make the last month of the year the best! Speak soon xx

September Favourites

September Favourites

So here are the things that I was really loving in September. There aren't very many of them so you can trust that they were all very well loved this month. And is it just me or does this favourites picture look very Summery? Maybe it is just my love for pastels that means whatever time for the year it is I will always be wearing them.

Firstly I have to mention this little gold Topshop elephant necklace that I have worn almost everyday since I bought it. It is so delicate and pretty and a slightly longer pendant. And elephants are my favourite animals so this makes me very happy.

The first thing that I have been using a lot this month is the mini They're Real mascara from Benefit. I had a pack with six little Benefit minis in and I think this has to be my favourite. I like to use this for evenings and nights out as it creates quite dramatic lashes that really do look like you could be wearing falsies! What I really love about this though is that I can put loads on and it won't go clumpy. And during the day I have just been wearing my Benefit Roller Lash mascara for a more natural look. I am so impressed by Benefit mascaras right now.

This has been my favourite lipstick for the last month. As it is started to get a little colder I have been getting out some deep reds and berry shades, but when I think about it, this is what I was reaching for the most. It's just a beautiful pretty "your lips but better" shade. And how pretty is this packaging? I think sometime soon I am going to do a whole post of this and show you some swatches or a makeup look.

I actually did a whole post about this Essie nail polish a couple of months ago which you can check out here. This is just a really unique greyish shade that looks really minimal and chic. And the fact that it is an Essie polish should come as no surprise!

Finally my favourite Ted Baker beauty bits. I use this lovely hand cream every night just before I go to bed and it smells devine. I just really don't want it to run out as it looks beautiful on my bedside too! And I have loved wearing this body spray on days when I am just going into uni and wearing a perfume seems a bit too much. It smells floral and fresh and again I love the packaging.

Hope you liked this little favourites. Let me know in the comments below what you have been loving this month. xx

Summer Beauty Favourites

Summer Beauty Favourites

Katherine Penney Chic Beauty Blogger Makeup Favourites Summer Review Skincare Perfume Pretty Girlie Drugstore

I need to apologise for being a bad blogger, I haven't done a monthly favourites since May! I usually do them right at the end of each month, but for the last two months that has been away on holiday so it has been a little difficult. So as we come to the end of August I thought instead of just a monthly favourites I would do a round up of all the beauty products that I have been loving this Summer.

Katherine Penney Chic Beauty Blogger Makeup Favourites Summer Review Skincare Perfume Pretty Girlie Drugstore

Firstly a few skincare bits to tell you about. I am going to start with the Clinique Anti-blemish Solution as I know I have talked about this a few times before. But these last few months it has honestly saved my skin. It is a bit gross but there have been several times were I have started to feel a painful under the skin spot coming through. But I just use a tiny amount of this on it a few times a day and two days later the would have been horrible spot has literally vanished! Seriously don't know what I would do without this stuff.

The next skin care products that I have been loving is Nivea After Sun moisturiser. I've been on a couple of holidays this summer and spent quite a bit of time in the sun. I always wear suncream but after a day in the sun the moisture that your skin has lost needs replacing. I love using this after a cold shower at the end of the day as it smells and feels so refreshing. It also helps to keep a tan looking lovely.

I picked up this Cocoa Butter Sugar Scrub at the beginning of summer and I just can't get enough of it. It smells delicious, it really exfoliates my skin and leaves it feeling super soft. But what I really love about this is unlike a lot of scrubs once you rinse it off in the shower it doesn't leave your skin feeling stripped and dry. I don't really know how else to describe it other than like a residue of moisture! It is like the the sugar in the scrub melts away to leave behind a layer of moisture. So if I sometimes feel like I can skip moisturising after using this.

Katherine Penney Chic Beauty Blogger Makeup Favourites Summer Review Skincare Perfume Pretty Girlie Drugstore

I really am loving Nivea this Summer! Nivea pearl and beauty is my favourite deodorant and I always carry around a little mini version in my handbag just in case it is really hot and I want to freshen up on the go.

I have a lot (under exaggeration!) of lip balms, but Nivea Hydra Care is definitely one of my favourite. it's cheap, quick, easy and you don't have to stick your finger in it so it is perfect for on the go. But it also has SPF in which is why I haven't really used any of my other lip balms this Summer. it is really important that when you are out in the sun all day to protect your lips as well as your skin. But I hate a lot of sun protection lip balms. They are hard to apply, drying and basically turn your lips this horrible white colour which is not attractive! So this one is a great replacement that just really hydrated the lips.

Marc Jacobs Daisy Dream is just my favourite Summer scent. I picked it up at Duty Free a year ago so it really does remind me of Summer. It's just a fresh, sweet and light scent and the bottle is just absolutely gorgeous!

Katherine Penney Chic Beauty Blogger Makeup Favourites Summer Review Skincare Perfume Pretty Girlie Drugstore

When I am sunbathing or most of the time when I am on holiday I don't like to wear makeup. I am gonna be reapplying suncream, probably sweating a little and just want to be able to jump into the pool or dive into the sea without worrying if my makeup will run! however to keep me from looking totally horrific there are a few things I do.

Firstly I will pretty much always curl my eyelashes in the morning, whether I am planning on wearing makeup or not. It has just become part of my morning routine that helps me feel more awake. If I feel like my face looks like a pancake or more often the case is that my face is like 5 shades lighter than my body as I wear a much higher SPF on my face and try to keep it out the sun, then I will apply some bronzer. A little bit of bronzer can really make a difference.

Finally to make it look as if I have make more of an effort than I really have I will put a bit of colour on my lips. The two that I have been reaching for the most are MAC Patisserie and Clinique lip crayon in two ton tomato. Patisserie is just the most beautiful nude/pink shade that I probably reach for the most out of all my lipsticks. Two ton tomato is a lovely glossy red that can be quite sheer or built up to a stronger colour. What I love about this though is even after a few hours when the gloss has gone it stains your lips a slight red shade that looks so pretty and natural.

You may recognise his mascara from my what I got for my birthday post last week and be wondering how it is in my Summer favourites. But I have actually been using this mascara all Summer, just in the sample size! I just love this mascara! Which isn't something that I have been able to say for a while. I will probably do a whole blogpost on this with some pictures showing you what it looks like on. But basically all you need to know if that it is slightly more than I would usually pay for a mascara but if you can try it I really recommend it, it's a lovely one!

I picked this nail polish from Essie up probably nearly two months ago, and since then I have worn it four times, which is an actually record for me as I am always changing my nail polish. In fact one time I even wore it for a week, took it off and then reapplied the same colour! Saltwater Happy is from the Essie Summer 2015 collection and has the cutest name. And I did a whole blogpost on it here if you wanted to see some more pictures.

This elf jumbo eyeshadow stick is something that I found in TK MAXX, didn't think I could live without it and then didn't really get into it until several months later! Beauty blogger problems! It is this shimmery bronzer eyeshadow stick that goes on really smoothly and is really blendable. How I like to use is to draw quite a thick messy line on my top lashes, concentrating at the outer corner and then bringing it down along my bottom lashes. And then I just get a brush and really blend it all out. It can be quite subtle and natural but it is really pretty and very quick.

Hope you have enjoyed reading all about my Summer favourites. Congratulations if you have actually made it this far, I am pretty good at waffling! Some of the clever ones might have just looked at the first picture and understood from the title that in some way or another I really like all of these products! Anyway, hope everyone is having a good weekend. Also link in the comments below your most recent Summer favourites or monthly favourites posts so I can give them a read and find some lovely new products to try out! Speak soon lovelies xx

May Favourites

Katherine Penney Chic May Favourites Monthly Beauty Accessories

Happy 1st of June everyone! It's basically summer and I can't wait, the weather just a has a bit of catching up to do! Feels like I haven't done a monthly favourites in ages as I missed last month due to a lack of camera. So I'm excited about the things that I have to share with you today.

Leopard Print Slip-ons
Firstly I need to talk about my new shoes as they have been the most exciting thing I've bought this month. I had seen a lot of this slip-on style shoe and I really loved them and then I started to see some leopard print ones on other blogs and Pinterest and I just thought they were so cool. I'm hardly adventurous when it comes to fashion, although being a fashion student now that is something that I am trying to change! But I have loved putting outfits together with my new shoes this month. They look great with black jeans and a plain white shirt or top. I also wore them with a little beige skirt and a denim shirt earlier in the month. So despite what my boyfriend thinks about these (he hates them!) I absolutely love my new shoes!

Nivea Hydra Care Lip Balm
While I do like Vaseline I find that after a while it get very drying. This lip balm from Nivea is one that I always come back to as it is just so moisturising and lasts such a long time. I can put it on before bed and still feel a bit of it there when I wake up in the morning! It's such a great one just to carry around in your handbag and it's a stick which means it's more hygienic on the go. Also I can't remember exactly but I am sure it is a bargain!

Jojoba Oil by Naissance
I started using this oil after experiencing very dry nails and doing a bit of research online for solutions. I got this bottle from Amazon for about £5 and I've had it for nearly two months and only used about a quarter. I like to just massage this into my cuticles whenever I remember, usually a few times during the day and then before bed. I've also started using this occasionally on my skin if it looks dry or dull. It's so moisturising and really sinks deep into the skin leaving it feeling really smooth.

Rimmel Extra Super Last Mascara
One of my friends from my course always has such amazing lashes so I finally asked her what mascara she uses thinking it would be an expensive one. So when she said it was an old, cheap one from Rimmel that they don't advertise any I was so excited! I picked this up at the beginning of the month and wasn't concentrating and got the brown/black one! But as I'd already opened it I started using it anyway and I love how natural it looks. You do have to scrap a bit of the excess back into the tube, like with most mascara. But this is a perfect everyday, natural looking mascara. And for less than £5 you can't go wrong!

Rimmel Scandaleyes Waterproof Kohl Eye Pencil - 005 Nude
This is something that I had wanted for ages but always seemed to be sold out in every Boots I went to. I only picked it up just over a week ago but I have worn it everyday since and know I am going to continue wearing it. It's amazing for reducing redness and making eyes look more awake. And the fact that it is nude and not white makes it look a lot more natural. Definitely recommend this.

Accessorize Gold Necklace
Don't think that they will still be selling this exact necklace as I have had this for a while, but I have been loving very delicate jewellery lately, particularly this gold necklace. It's the perfect way to dress up a really simple outfit and I think that it looks so classy and effortless.

Ted Baker Body Lotion
I forgot I even had this until I got home a few weeks ago and saw it in my cupboard. If I am honest as far as a moisturiser goes there are probably better ones. But this smells so amazing! I don't know how to describe it, but trust me, it smells good. I loved using this after a bath when I was having a bit of a pamper. I also think Ted Baker body lotions or scrubs or something would make a lovely present for someone, or just as a treat for yourself!
