Saturday Sunshine

Saturday Sunshine

Katherine Penney Chic Blogger Summer sunshine outdoors pretty garden girlie cute pretty boho love

This is the first time in a long time that the weather has been amazing and I have actually had the day off work to enjoy it! And I think this is basically the last day of summer now so this morning I got straight into my bikini to try and make the most of it. I moved some blankets and cushions, and then all the other essentials, iphone, laptop, Vogue, Essie nail polishes outside into the garden to create the perfect little relaxation zone. I have been trying to top up my tan from Kefalonia but I have had to move back inside for a bit to write this blogpost as it is basically impossible to see my screen in the sunshine, and sunglasses do not help!

For lunch I made myself a yummy little salad. it sounds very healthy but the truth is that I woke up so late and had a bacon and egg sandwich for breakfast so I wasn't actually that hungry. I also have some of my all time favourite drink, Pink Lemonade. And I swear it isn't just because of the colour!

This afternoon I used my new Nutribullet again which I really can't get enough of! I now have lots of more adventurous things to put into my smoothies to make them even healthier like spinach, kale, almonds and all that good stuff, as well as lots of yummy fruit.

Today I just chose one of the simple smoothie recipes from the Nutribullet booklet, Spinach, banana, strawberries, blueberries and then some water.

It tastes really nice and refreshing, especially on a hot day like today, and I can't really even taste the spinach!

Hope everyone is having a lovely weekend. Speak soon xx

Lush Bubble Bath

Lush Bubble Bath

Katherine Penney Chic Lush Bubble Bath Evening

I know that a lot of people out there love Lush but I've never really been one of those girls. Occasionally I'll walk into the shop, have a little sniff of some of the products and then leave empty handed. It's not that I don't like it, it's just that I find a lot of the smells overpowering and more often than not the shop gives me a bit of a headache after a while.

But having been at university for the last few month one thing that I had found I really missed was a nice long soak in a bath. So when I was in Westfield on Monday I decided to treat myself to a bath bomb to celebrate my first bath for such a long time.

I smelt basically all of the bath bombs that Lush had to offer until they all started to smell the same and I was getting confused! But in the end the one that I chose was a really nice simple one. The smell is relaxing and slightly sweet but not so strong that it is offensive.

And I didn't realise until after I used this (although I probably should have from the name!) that this has little pieces of their butter bar in. So when the bath bomb dissolves you are left with little pieces of the butter bar in the bath that slowly melt into the water leaving a kind of oil in the bath that then makes your skin feel amazing. My skin actually felt and looked amazing after my bath which I really didn't think was going to happen. I thought this was just going to change the colour of my water a little and make my bath smell nice, but it did so much more.

I lit lots of candles and placed them around my bath as this helps me to relax even more. I also had some Taylor playing to sing a long to! Singing in the bath is so much better than singing in the shower as you can't get water in your mouth and the sound is so much better!!

I really loved using this bath bomb and actually wish that I had got a few more! So I would definitely recommend this one if you haven't tried it already. Also I would love to hear in the comments below your favourite Lush products.

Five Reasons I love Candles

Five Reasons I love Candles

I love burning a good candle, whatever time of year. I probably have a bit of a candle obsession with about 15 floating around in my room. But I think there are a few reasons why everybody needs a few candles in their life.

  1. They smell amazing - there is just a huge range of choice for any type of smell you could ever imagine. Picking your candle is like choosing a perfume, just for your home. It needs to reflect you and your style. And candles are sold in so many places, even supermarkets, so they don't need to be expensive.
  2. They set the mood - there is nothing better than reading in bed or listening to calming music next to the flicker of a candle flame, especially in winter.
  3. They are lovely decor - so much though and effort goes into candle design and most of them are so beautiful. They look perfct on any dressing table, coffee table, window sill or any surface really. Another option would be to invest in the lovely candle holder and then you can keep refilling it with candles so it will never run out.
  4. They are so relaxing - having a candle in the room really relaxes me. I like to light them while I'm working as well as when I'm in the bath!
  5. They have so many other uses - once the candle is finished you can clean out all of the wax and you are left with a beautiful jar that you can use in any way you like. It could be a makeup brush holder, a tea light holder, a flower vase or just simply a decorative piece in a room.

Relaxing In A Bubble Bath

Relaxing In A Bubble Bath

There is nothing more relaxing than a lovely candle lit bubble bath, especially when you've been ill recently like I have. It's so mice just to switch off after a long and busy week and have a long soak while listening to a bit of Taylor Swift. And there are a few products that I like to use when I have my bubble bath.

  • Botanics Body Brush - You might recognise this from my Wishlist #1, while I finally managed to get it with my Boots points. So I'm trying it out at the moment and brushing my body before I get in the bath to get my bloody flowing around my body.
  • The Body Shop Shea Butter Shower Gel - I love the smell of this stuff and it is so creamy and luxurious. Definitely a winner in my books.
  • The Body Shop Shea Butter Lip Balm - got to have the matching lip balm right?
  • The Body Shop Shower Loafer - because I find exfoliating so much easier in the bath than in the shower and I love how soft this makes my skin feel afterwards.

I definitely recommend baths, they do take longer than showers but they are so much more relaxing. It's one of my favourite ways to spend a Friday evening.
