The Uni Bedroom Tour

I have been living in my new home for about 6 weeks now, so I though it was about time I shared a few pictures. I say "home" but home will always be the the house I am currently sitting in as I type this, the place I grew up, with the marble kitchen and walls of grandpas paintings. My house in Manchester where I am living for my final year is not quite as homely. Like any typical student accommodation it is run-down, cold and a bit damp, complete with peeling walls and leaking showers! However, I have made my bedroom as much as possible an oasis of calm and creativity. And despite the dodgy lighting and awful blue carpets (with gum trodden in!), I think I have done okay!

This is one of my favourite parts of my room - the clothes rail! Right now it is filled with all of the clothes that I am loving for Autumn. So loads of coats and jackets, fur, bottle green and burgundy shades, dark florals and winter dresses. And I have covered the beam with inspiration that I have cut out of magazines.

Above my wardrobe I've got a few little decorative items - candles, plants, photos and my polaroid. I also keep my perfumes and jewellery here so after I am dresses I remember to put those on.

I keep all of my beauty products out of the way but still organised and accessible in these little baskets. The top one is for face products and the bottom is for hair and body. And obviously some more little plants on top!

This year I am lucky enough to have a sink in my bathroom! It's great to be able to do my face routine and brush my teeth in the morning and evening in my own bedroom. Plus I can have luxury Ted Baker soap that my friend got me for my birthday which I probably wouldn't put in a communal bathroom!

And finally the second most important part of a student room (after the bed!), where I spend the majority of my time! The desk came with the room, and while I am really lucky with home big and how much storage there is, I am not sure I love the glass. Personally I just have so much stuff that I need to put on my desk that it makes it look a bit messy.

My desk also works as my dressing table, so that after a long day of working I can swivel my chair slightly to the right and get ready for a night out! I've also got a pin board of some more inspiring magazine images and a lovely quote from Ralph Lauren.

Anyway, I think that is about it for my bedroom! It's not quite home, but when the candles are lit and the fairy lights are up it is pretty cosy!

New Bedroom Inspiration

New Bedroom Inspiration

In less than a Week now I am going to be moving in with all my university friends into a new house, and my new bedroom. I have been so excited to decorate my new bedroom and it has been so much fun going shopping for pretty bits and pieces this Summer. So I have put together some inspiration from WeHeartIt and Pinterest. 

Unlike last year I actually have a good sized bedroom with a double bed, which is very exciting. I have decided to keep my room quite white as it is my favourite colour and have everything looking really fresh and clean. And then when Christmas coming it will be easy to change things up sligtly by adding a Christmasy throw and some pretty lights or something. I also want to have a bit of pastel blue in my room and I have a beautiful Urban Outfitters throw for my bed that is actually in the exact same pattern as the bedding second left on the bottom row. When I get up to Manchester I also want to buy quite a bit green plant to have in the corner of my room as I love the green against all the white. 

I am so excited to decorate my bedroom. I do have some rather horrible orange checked curtains to deal with, but hopefully we can get past that! Can't wait to show you all the photos once it is finished. xx

New Bedroom Inspiration

Decorating With Cacti

If you read my blog regularly then you will know that about a week ago I went on what I am pretty sure was my first ever trip to IKEA! You would also know that I went a little cactus happy and ended up buying 6 mini cacti in the little white pots. And I have finally found a home for all of them in my bedroom so I wanted to share some photos with you. I absolutely love how they look and I was definitely missing some green in my bedroom. 

The first two cacti are placed on my shelves to add a bit of colour. I think that they look so pretty alongside all of the jewellery and the nail polish. And just in case you were wondering or it was bugging you the top cactus is wonky. A lot of the soil was missing from that one so it is a little bit sad at the moment and I have no idea how to fix it!

I used to have all my makeup on this window sill but realised that it probably wasn't a very clever idea to keep it there in the sun. So now I have moved all of my makeup to the shelf above my desk which gave me the perfect space for these three cacti. I love how minimal and chic this looks with all of the white on white. 

And finally I saved my favourite cactus (yes, I'm sad!) for right by my bed! I needed some colour here as well and think it helps to tie everything together. 

I am really loving minimal and bohemian styles not only for fashion but also for decor. They sound like two completely contracting trends, bohemian style is far from minimal. But I like to keep some aspects minimal, particularly the colour palette of my bedroom very neural with lots of white and then bring a slight bohemian touch to other things, such as subtle intricate prints and different textures. Not sure if that really makes much sense but it does in my head! 

Hope everyone had a good Friday! I finally got my first pay cheque from working at Joules today although I have already spent it on something very exciting which I am sure will be featuring on the blog very soon! xx

Summer Bedroom Details

Summer Bedroom Details 

Today I wanted to share with you the little changes that I make to my room for summer. As well as having a huge Spring clean and bagging up all of my winter clothes I like to add a few little details to make my room feel more summery without really having to spend any extra money. 

On of the things I like to do is to put away all of my dark wintery bags and bring out all of my pretty summery handbags. I try to stick to light pastel colours that fit with my decor and will bring a nice fresh feel. Here you can see a lot of white, cream, grey and blue bags and I love these colours together and all of the different textures. 

Another thing that I like to change up and display is all of my summery pastel Essie nail polishes. And yes, these are just the pastel shades that I have! I'm slightly obsessed! I have these all displayed on my shelf and again I love how all of these different shades compliment each other. 

Daisy Dream by Marc Jacobs is my favourite Spring Summer scent. Well It's been my favourite scent for the past year by hey! To me this bottle just screams summer so I love to have it on display too. 

You are probably getting the idea of this now! So I also bring out all of my pretty summer shoes and have them in a row just under my shelves. Also makes them very accessible too!

Here I've just used a beautiful antique glass cake stand to display some of my favourite necklaces. These are mostly grey and silvery shades so they also fit well with the rest of my decor. 

I also love putting my beautiful new Fujifilm out. And it reminds me that I need to take it with me when I go out and capture lots of summer memories. 

And obviously I switch up my bedding to something lighter for summer. White bedding has always been my favourite and I like to think that I am pretty good and keeping it nice and clean. I also have a couple of pretty pillows and a few little teddies for some extra detail.

Some Details From Today

Some Details From Today

It's finally the weekend! Not that it really makes much of a difference now that I am just at home on holiday but Friday evenings are always my favourite. Today mum was throwing a lunch for all of her friends so I spent the morning helping her in the kitchen with the food and making everything look nice. I really wish I had taken some pictures as when everything was set up it was lovely with the bunting, the fairylights and the pretty flowers on the table. 

But at midday my brother Nick and I went to Pizza Express in town to get out of the way a bit. And it was lovely just to get out now that it is getting a bit warmer and have a long chat with him. Since getting back from town and picking at all the left over food from the lunch (someone left some nice brownies!) I really don't know what I have done today! At least I still have the evening to waste away! 

Beautiful white roses. These are just my favourite and I love the way that they look in my room with all the cream and white. 

It's so lovely to be back in my room at home it's so much bigger, doesn't get anywhere near as dusty and just feels so pretty and light. 

Some accessories. Finally sunny enough to get out my sunglasses. I think these ones are from Forever 21 and I love them. Most of the time I just like wearing sunglasses on my head, makes it look like I have done something a bit more with my hair! And I've really loved using this little satchel bag I found when clearing out my closet. Helps me keep my packing to a minimal so I am not carrying around a load of junk all day!

Some makeup bits. These are the products that I have been reaching for on the days that I wear makeup. My Marc Jacobs Daisy Dream is back at university but this Anais Anais perfume is a lovely floral Spring scent. And I think that I am going to do a whole post on my go to eye makeup look. I'm really into cream eye shadows and a bronze look at the moment.

And I think I've found that the best way to do that was not with big thing but with a few little bits and pieces and some beautiful details. So of these I bought with me from home and some of them I've added since I've been at university. 

But I thought that for this post I would share my tips on how I like to make a room feel a bit more homely. 

Firstly stick to a simple colour theme. I've chosen white and pastel colours not only because they are my favourite but also because they help to make a small room appear bigger. My first tip would be pretty pots and vases on empty surfaces and desks. Not only are these pretty but they can also be used as storage for little bits and pieces such as hair ties and stationery.

Another way I like to add some detail to my room is with pretty boxes. Being the neat freak that I am I think that you can never have too many pretty boxes to organise all of your bits and pieces. Especially for delicate little things like jewellery pretty boxes come in very hand. I like to keep my favourite ring and earrings in this little round one and my bracelets in the bigger box.

Another way I like to add a bit of a personal feel to my bedroom is with my favourite perfumes, makeup and nail polish. Not only does it make them easier to find and reach but it also adds some really pretty detail and picks up on the colour theme of my room.

Finally just add any other bits and pieces that take your fancy! I love having this Live, Love Laugh accessory above my desk as I find it motivational. And I also have this little white Eiffel tower which I got in Paris last year and reminds me of an amazing summer holiday. It's lovely to keep little things from travels and days out that remind you of happy memories.
