Pretty Rocks

Darbyshire Rocks

Katherine Penney Chic Blogger Life White Rock England Peak District Love Fall Autumn

Please excuse the pun, I really couldn't help it!

A couple of weeks ago I went to Darbyshire for a couple of days to see my family who were staying there for half term. I miss my family so much when I am at university so it was so lovely to go and see them just for a little bit.

Darbshire is a beautiful place in the Peak District where I now have so many lovely memories. We did a lot of walking, even in the rain. We went out for lunch, wondered around the little town of Buxton (yes, where the water is from - took me a while!) and found some cute shops. One of my favourite things that we did was go into some caves where they have these beautiful blue and yellow rocks. The ones I have here aren't them, but they had a little gift shop and I thought that these were really pretty!

My brother and I spent ages looking in the gift shop at all the beautiful rocks. It was like we were kids again, when the gift shop is always the best part of an outing or school trip. In the end I think that my dad just felt sorry for us (or more likely embarrassed by us!) so he gave us each £5 to by some rocks and get out of there. In the end his plan backfired as we took even longer decided what to spend our money on. You really wouldn't believe I am going to be 20 next year!
Anyway, I chose these two in the end. I love the blue shades of them both and thought they would look so pretty in my bedroom and in the backdrop of photos.

Just a little collection of some of the pictures that I took while I was there. Autumn was in full swing and looking back through I my photos I was obviously very excited by all the pretty coloured leaves! There is also a photos of the beautiful gift shop that I found. It was white, cute and perfect, totally up my street. In the end I didn't by anything by I am pretty sure my mum snuck back there to get some presents for my sister and I for Christmas. She's not very subtle with things like that!

Home For Christmas

Home For Christmas

Katherine Penney Chic Pretty Christmas Decorations Jumper

Yay! So I finally arrived home on Saturday evening! It's so strange being back in my home as I haven't been here since I left for university in September. Mum had decorated the house beautifully but they had saved the tree decorating for when I got home. So I but on my christmas jumper and we watched The Snowman one of my favourite childhood Christmas films while hanging up all the decorations.

Peak District With The Family

Peak District With The Family

Last week for my university reading week I went to stay with my family in a little cottage in the Peak District. It was so lovely to see them after 6 weeks and I can't wait to go back home for Christmas now.

Despite the weather being cold and grey we spent most days wondering around the beautiful countryside and eating lots of pizza! I took my camera for the week and got a few really good snaps so hope you like them.

With my brother and sister :)

How beautiful is this bench in one of the gardens we went to?

The perfect Autumn view

What I wore to stay warm:

Coat - H&M
Jeans - Uniglo
Lace vest top (just seen) - Uniglo
Jumper - H&M
Handbag - Accessorize
Wellies - Hunter
Watch - Nixon
Scarf - from a boutique back home. But I have seen ones very similar in other shops before

So many sheep everywhere!

Another outfit I wore;

Coat - same as before
Jumper - Dorothy Perkins
Scarf - Ebay

Love my Hunter wellies which I was lucky enough to get last Christmas. Can wait to get back into wearing these again :)

My 18th Birthday!

My 18th Birthday!

Cute birthday breakfast with my family and Jack

Sparklers on my birthday cake!

Before dinner out

My little sister chose this awesome glass for me

Making my birthday wish!

The nail polish I chose for my manicure (two days later)

I'm finally 18! It's really weird being on of the youngest in the year and having everyone turn 18 way before you. I thought because nearly all my friends had by the time that it got to my birthday I would be ready for it. But the fact that I am now 18 is still just such a crazy concept to me! Anyway, I honestly had the most amazing birthday. My family, particularly my mum and my sister put so much effort and time into making the whole weekend so amazing and special and I am just so grateful.

My birthday celebrations started on the Saturday evening before my birthday. My boyfriend Jack came round in the early evening and we all got ready for a meal out in a French restaurant in town. It was such a nice evening that we decided to walk there which sadly we really don't do as often as we should. The meal was so lovely and as it was my birthday we all got complementary drinks and all the staff came over and sang to me and gave me a free chocolate dessert with a candle on and the cute pink party hat!

In the morning we all had a little lie in and then went into my mum and dads room and all sat on the bed as I opened my presents. It's a little tradition in my family in my family to open birthday presents in the morning all together on the bed and it was nice to have Jack there as well. I can't believe how many presents I got and how much thought people had put into the gifts. I was a very very lucky girl and I am absolutely in love with everything that I got. Should be a "What I got for my birthday" post coming on the blog soon.

After I opened my presents we went downstairs and I had a lovely birthday breakfast with croissants and pan au chocolats which are my favourite. A bit later on we went for a quick dog walk and then came back home for a small roast lunch. Not long after lunch Jack parents came round to pick him up and give my my present which was so sweet of them. We had tea and birthday cake and it was really lovely.

After cake time mum and I rushed off to pick my bestfriend Livi up for my birthday surprise, which wasn't actually a surprise because my mum can't keep a secret! The drive was long but when we got arrived we were dropped off at a beautiful spa and hotel. After we got into our lovely hotel room we had a quick dip in the swimming pool and a little sit in the sauna. And because it was a Sunday night and most other people had gone home we basically had the whole thing to ourselves!

Then at 5pm my mum had each of us booked in for a back massage. I've never really had a massage before but it has been something I have wanted to do for so long. It honestly felt amazing and it was so relaxing and I was so scared that I would fall asleep and start dribbling! After we both had a little manicure and I chose this gorgeous shimmery navy polish which was probably a little bit wintery but I just fell in love with the colour. After we sat in this posh relaxation room while we chatted and waited for our nails to dry!

Then we went back to our hotel room and got ready for our evening meal in the hotel. My mum had booked us in for a 3 course meal in the smart hotel restaurant. The food was amazing and I had such a lovely soup for a starter, an amazing steak and then Eton mess for dessert. It was nice just to have a catch up and a DMC with my bestie over a fancy meal! After we went back to our room got into our pjs and snuggled up in our bed to watch MiC while stuffing our faces even more with sweets and chocolate.

The next morning we woke up and had a lovely breakfast in the hotel resaurant. We had to sign out of our rooms at 11 but we were still allowed to use all of the facilities. We used the gym for about an hour and a half and basically had it all to ourselves. I was really proud of myself in the gym but the sad reality is that that was the most exercise I had done all summer! After we went into the swimming pool again and used the sauna in the hope that the 5/10 minutes we were in there it would dramatically improve our skin! And in the swimming pool I started off doing lengths like the sophisticated 18 year old that I know am, but after about 5 minutes I was back to doing handstands and star floats and roly polys! Mum came and picked us up at around 3 and we were home in time for tea.

I had the most amazing birthday and I am not trying to brag about anything I did, I really am so grateful especially to my parents. I like to share a bit of my life and what I get up to on this blog as well as beauty and fashion and this was a pretty big thing for me. Hope you are all still enjoying your summer even though it is getting a little chilly here now. Speak soon :) xx

A Cornish Holiday

A Cornish Holiday

Every summer I go to Cornwall with my family for a few weeks as we have a little cottage down there. This year my boyfriend Jack also came to stay with us for a week and we also had a few other family friends over so it was super busy. I has such a great time and for most of the holiday the weather was on our side. I did manage to take a few pictures of some of the things that I got up to when I was in Cornwall so I thought that I would share them with you.

This is the house that we share with my Mum's side of the family near St Ives. It’s pretty basic and a little in the middle of nowhere but it has a beautiful garden. I’ve been going here every summer for as long as I can remember and I have so many memories here.

Rainy Day In St Ives

On one of the more rainy days this holiday I took my boyfriend Jack to St Ives and despite the weather we had a lovely day. Because all of my family have been going to Cornwall for as long as they can remember my parents like to think of themselves as "half locals" and they tend to avoid all of the more touristy places like St Ives. But despite how busy it gets in summer St Ives is one of my favourite places to go. I love the beaches and the little independent shops and the smell of all the bakeries and the unlimited supply of ice cream!

We walked along the little shops and I found a lovely navy jacket from Yumi in the sale. I wish I could show you but I bought it and then my mum took it away so she could give it to me for my birthday! Does anybody else do that, basically buy themselves birthday presents for other people to give to you?! But my birthday is on Sunday so maybe I'll do a "What I got for my birthday" post and show you! After a bit of shopping we hid from the rain in a lovely and very reasonable restaurant where we had the most amazing view of the beach and harbour. I had the most amazing pizza and then for dessert we walked back to a bakery that I had spotted earlier which sold Oreo brownies!

Sitting on the beach singing Classic!

All the boats in the harbour

After eating way too much Jack and I walked found to one of the other beaches and sat on the sand people-watching and trying to memorise all the lyrics to the song Classic! Then it was a long walk back to the station so we picked up ice cream milkshakes and a pick and mix! I'm just realising how much rubbish we ate that day! Oh well, it summer!

A Day Surfing

Every year on a day that isn't really warm or sunny we go to a beach quite near us and hire some surf boards. Considering the amount of times that we have done this you might expect me to be kind of okay! Sadly surfing doesn't really come naturally to me as you can probably tell from the pictures! My dad took so many pictures of me surfing and in nearly every single one I am pulling the most disgusted face! I promise I am enjoying myself! I not very daring so I like to stay in the shallower waves and try to stand up. It still doesn't happen very much though!

Action shot! How not to surf!

Jack looking in awe of my surfing skills! ;)

Private Beach Day!

Just in case you were wondering we don't own a beach in Cornwall! I wish! But like I was saying before we tend to go to places and beaches that aren't very touristy or maybe aren't even known by most people. On this day we went to a little beach we call Zennor. It's so beautiful and nobody else really knows about it so we had the whole beach to ourselves which was so nice.

The sea was so nice and clear but also so freezing! And on the difficult walk down there is a hidden kayak which only the locals know about so we brought it down to the beach and had a go which was great fun! And this was one of the really hot days that we had so it was just perfect.

Beautiful hidden beaches

This was the beach that we got all to ourselves for today! How beautiful does that sea look?!

My little sister having a go on the kayak

Evening at the Minack Theate

Near Lands End in Cornwall there is the most amazing outdoor theatre which has been carved into the cliffs of the coastline. My parents treated us all to an evening here watching a production called The Producers. We brought our own picnic and cushions and lots and lots of layers for when it got colder later. My mum made such a great picnic with sausage rolls, salad, strawberries and biscuits and she even brought hot chocolate and marshmellows for when it got really freezing! The play was really funny although I probably shouldn't say that because it was a parody of Hitler and the Nazis! Anyway, it was just such an amazing evening in the most beautiful cinema and when it got really really cold I had to cuddle up to Jack in our massive coats!

 Most amazing views

The little stage of the theatre!

Hope you enjoyed reading this rather long post of a few of the things that I got up to in Cornwall. I also wanted to thank all of you that read my blog and were so patient with me while I was without internet for most of the holiday. I'm back home now and loving not having to share a room with my sister who talks in her sleep. Speak soon :) xx
