Si

Isn't it the best feeling ever when you treat yourself to something that you have been saving up for for ages!? And ever better when you manage to grab it on sale! Perfume and scent is something that I have been getting for and more into as I get older. And I've definitely come along way since the days of Charlie Red body spray!

I do know I am quite fussy with scents though, and I can't perfume shop for very long as I get a head ache and everything starts to smell the same. But I had a little sniff of this over a year ago now and fell in love. And since then it has been playing on my mind as something I wanted to save up my boots points for. So once I had enough points and the gift set came into sale after Christmas I treated myself. And boy, is this luxurious perfume a treat!

I'm not going to pretend that I know the first thing about scents and how to describe them. And as much as I would love to, I am definietly not one of those people who can pick out ingredients from a single sniff. However, I have done a little bit of research which I thought that I would share with you.

Si is described under the family of chypre scents, which are warm and dry. These scents are often built around a woody, mossy base with stronger hints of flowers or fruit. This one is more floral with notes of neroli, jasmine and rose. To me this is more of a warm Winter scent, it's inviting and uplifting and is beautiful and feminine without being too sickly sweet.

And if you're an expert here are the notes below...

Top notes: Sicilian Bergamot, Mandarin Oil, Liquer de Cassis
Heart notes: Rose de Mai Absolute, Neroli Absolute, Egyptian Jasmine Absolute
Base notes: Patchouli Oil, Blond Woods, Amber, Orcanoxâ„¢, Vanille Absolute

Sometimes it's nice to save up and treat yourself to a little bit of luxury. And I would definietly recommend saving up all of your Boots points for something special rather than spending it on little bits and pieces here and there. I've already started saving up for something else, although I have no idea what it will be yet. Possibly a Chanel lipstick!

Bourjois Beauty Buys

Bourjois Beauty Buys

Katherine Penney Chic Beauty Makeup Boots Bourjois Review Bronzer Lip Crayon Free Gift Set

Before I went to Spain I went on a pre holiday Boots haul, as you do! I mostly got travel miniatures (I love them!) but I also needed to replace my much loved foundation and powder from Bourjois. As it turned out I chose the perfect time to replace them as Bourjois were giving away a free goodie box if you spent over a certain amount. So I thought I would share with you what I got and my first impression of the free items.

Firstly I just wanted to rave a bit about the Healthy Mix Foundation and Healthy Balance Powder. I have been using both for over a year now and I love them. I wear the powder every single day and honestly think it is amazing. It would definitely feature in my top 5 drugstore favourites. It's great for getting rid of shine but never looking powdery and still leaving a natural healthy glow. Also it has a little mirror which is great and is in a really compact packaging so I always carry this around in my bag.

The foundation is also really lovely and again leaves the skin with a lovely healthy glow. I don't tend you wear tis everyday as I like something a bit lighter but in the evenings or for a special event if I wanted my skin to look flawless then I would reach for this.

So here is what I got in the free gift, a bronzer and a bronzer brush and my favourite item, the Colour Boost Lip Crayon. To be perfectly honest I haven't really been using this bronzer too much yet. I love my Bourjous Chocolate bronzer so that is the one that I will usually reach for. Also this bronzer in my opinion is unnecessarily huge! So it isn't really very good for carrying around in a handbag or taking away with you. The brush is okay but isn't as soft as I would like it to be. And I already have a smaller, tapered brush which I like to use for bronzer as it can act as a contour as well.

But it is the Colour Boost Lip Crayon that I really wanted to share with you all. This is in the shade 04 Peach On The Beach, which I have heard a few beauty bloggers talking about before and have always wanted to try. I threw this last minute into my makeup bag for Spain and then ended up wearing it basically everyday!

Like the name would suggest it is a beautiful peachy pink shade. It looks great with a tan and still manages to make you look more tanned. While I'm sunbathing on holiday I don't like to wear any makeup, especially on my skin. But I would always curl my eyelashes and then put a bit of this on my lips and would instantly feel better. This also has SPF15 so it was just perfect and a lovely glossy texture.

Hope you liked this post. And please let me know in the comments below if you have tired the Bourjois Colour Boost and if you have any other colours that you would recommend as I would love to try some more of these now! xx

Benefits Of Dry Brushing

Benefits Of Dry Brushing

Katherine Penney Chic Dry Brushing Benefits Health Beauty

I have been dry brushing before I shower for probably nearly a year now. And while my friends and family think I'm crazy for doing it I wanted to share with you what dry brushing is and why I do it. I know that beauty fads come out all the time, and being a total beauty junkie I probably so get sucked in by advertising and magazines. But this is something that I have researched a lot, done for nearly a year and genuinely believe is really good.

So what is dry brushing? Dry brushing is simply brushing the skin with a brush like the one in the picture above before you shower. It best done starting at the hands and the ankles and brushing in long upward motions towards the heart.

What are the benefits?

The skin is the largest organ in the body yet I think so often we forget to care for it. Often when we think of skin we just think about the skin on our face as it is the most obvious and visible. But we need to look after all of out skin and I think that dry brushing is a really quick and simple step do add to your routine to do that.
  • Exfoliation - this is one of the simplest and most natural ways to exfoliate the skin
  • fewer in grown hairs - shedding dead skin cells through exfoliation can help with ingrowing hairs. I have been waxing my legs for years and I've definitely noticed a difference.
  • Smoother, brighter skin - shedding dead skin cells can help to improve the appearance of the skin.
  • Helps with blood flow in the skin
  • Can help with  muscle tone and a move even distribution of fat pockets
  • May reduce cellulite
So if you don't already I would really recommend dry brushing, you might find that you love it like I do. It is quick and easy and it actually feels very nice and relaxing before a shower and helps to wake me up in the morning. The brush that I use is just from Boots Botanics range but they have a few different options. Hope you enjoying reading this little post. xx

Mini Boots Haul

Mini Boots Haul

Just a few things that I picked up on my last little trip to Boots. I have an ever growing list of beauty products I want to try that I have good things about from the YouTube videos that I watch and the blogs that I read. So this bit of shopping was basically to cross a few things off this list!

The first things that I picked up where the two L'Oreal eye shadows which I heard lots of good things about, especially from Amelia Liana. And they were on buy one get one half price which was a bonus! I already had a matte one of these which I love and use a lot so I decided to pick up the other textures they do. I picked up a nude one in 205 Sable Lame which is a gorgeous and very pigmented gold colour. I think this will look great it summer but also just looking at it reminds me of Christmas and New Year and all that good stuff so it will be perfect for winter parties too. I also picked up a lumiere shadow in 502 Quartz Fume which is a very shimmery dark browny bronze which looks gorgeous all over the lid or just for a bit of a smokey eye. So far I am just so impressed with both of these. I really want to try some more from this collection as they are just so beautiful and for the quality I think £5.50 is pretty reasonable.

The next thing that I picked up was this lip butter crayon from Collection. I spotted this in Zoella's most recent makeup collection video and thought the colour looked really pretty. Collection is always really reasonable so this was only £3. I love how moisturising this is and even though the colour does come up quite a bit lighter than I had expected it's still really pretty.

Finally I used up some of my Boots points to buy a new concealer. I've been using the Collection ones for a while now and even though they are really good I do find them to be a little bit drying under my eyes. This one is a lot more moisturing although I do find it to be a little bit thinner and I have to use two layers. But the colour 2 is perfect for me and I've really enjoyed using this.

Hope you like this little and not very interesting haul. I'm sorry that I haven't been able to post this weekend really. It was my 18th birthday yesterday so I spent most of the weekend surrounded by friends and family. I had a really great time though and I was very lucky so hopefully I will share what I got up to very soon and maybe a few of my presents too! xx

A Little Shopping Trip...

A Little Shopping Trip...

Oops! So this all happened on my so called little break from revision! My first stop was at the Body Shop as I wanted to pick up the same vitamin e moisturiser that I tried not that long ago and get the night cream from the same range. But there was a three for two offer on skincare and makeup which basically meant that I got to pick something else up for free! So my love for face masks drew me to the vitamin e mask in this range. I've given it one go last night and so far so good, but expect a fully review coming shortly when I've given it a few good tries.

I had a list when I went into Boots of four things that I needed; bio oil, nose strips, Aussie 3 minute miracle and Herbal Essences hair mask. So saying that I actually did okay and the only other Beauty product that I picked up was the Garnier micellar cleansing water which I have never tried before but I have heard a lot about it and wanted to give it a go. So keep an eye on the blog for a post on my first impressions of that coming soon. And being on of the very few people who have never tried Bioderma I won't have a high end product to compare it to!

So all was going pretty well until I saw all the signs for a 3 for 2 on all makeup. Why do shops do this?! I don't know if anyone else does this but I watch a lot of beauty and makeup videos on YouTube and read a lot of blogs. And whenever I see a product that I like the look of or really want to try I write it down on a list on my phone, which is dangerous really as then I think I need it. Sometimes I get to Boots and the colour isn't what it looked like on the screen so I don't buy it. But most of the time when I have enough money I will pick it up. I've have heard so much about these Rimmel lipsticks and this colour looked gorgeous so I picked that one up. Then also I had had my eye for a while on this Boujois bronzing primer as with summer coming and me not really have seen any sun I starting to feel the need to fake it a bit more! Finally to complete my 3 for 2 I picked up this really simple matte brown shade for L'Oreal as it will be so versatile and I think it will just be one that I can wear everyday.

If you'd looked carefully at the first picture you might now be wondering if I'm going to talk about what's in the Accessorize bag. Well it's something wanted for such a long time and when I saw this in the shop just over a month ago it was perfect and since then I have just been saving up for it. But you're going to have to wait for a post all about what's in the Accessorize bag coming up in the next few days!
