That Zara Dress

Or should I say playsuit? It looks like a dress, but it is so short that I feel the need to let people know that there are some shorts underneath to protect my dignity! You must know the dress I'm talking about...the Zara one that everyone owns. And if you don't have a version of it yourself (be it sleeveless, striped, plain etc), then I guarantee that at least 5 people you know do!

Usually I find there is nothing worse that wearing something that everyone else owns. I'm definietly not a trend setter, but I do prefer to wear things that people can't just look at and sigh "Zara, I have it too!". Plus the more people that buy something the more saturated the market becomes, and suddenly that it thing is officially out.

My gosh, this dress has saturated the industry! I've seen it on about 8 friends scrolling through my Facebook, about 15 bloggers that I follow on Instagram, and it is still popping up on my Pinterest. Usually I'd roll my eyes and run a mile but when I saw the blue bell sleeved version on sale I thought I would give it a quick try on. And unfortunately I completely see what all the fuss is about!

The seam across the chest looks like it shouldn't work, it's something that you'd dress a 4 year old in. But it simultaneously manages to flatter those who have been blessed with boobs, and create the illusion of something for the rest of us. The fact that the dress is so incredibly short means it makes even the most petite look as though we have legs for days. Yet the shorts mean you don't have to panic on tube escalators or dance without lifting your arms up and flashing your underwear. The low back is flattering, but you can totally still get away with wearing a regular bra. The fabric is cool and airy, but for something from Zara feels weighty and not at all sheer. The shape of the dress means you can go out and order a starter, main with chips on the side, a cocktail and still have more than enough room for dessert. It's like leaving the house in pyjamas but looking put together. And you can rock the dress with Birkenstocks, trainers or heeled sandals. And as if all that wasn't enough...it has pockets. Sold.

So now I completely understand why everyone has this dress. Because Zara totally nailed it! I'm not sure they need to bring out any new colours or versions. They've already saturated the market themselves! But it does go to show that where good design, style and functionality meet, something amazing can be created (and sales will be off the chart!).

Would love to hear in the comments if you have this dress (or similar) and how you like to style it.

Pretty In Paisley

My wardrobe is pretty full and to be perfectly honest I do not need new clothes...ever! But as a fashion student and someone who spends hours reading magazines and scrolling through Pinterest never shopping again isn't really an option! So my new rule is to only buy things that I absolutely love, and that bring my joy (within reason of course). So I wanted to share the latest edition to my wardrobe that I am totally obsessed with. So much so that it only arrived today I have already taken a load of photos to upload to Instagram and write a blogpost!

This dress is just everything. It's feminine and beautifully intricate but it's so unique and different to anything I have seen before. The colours are stunning, and that's saying something as I am not usually one to wear much colour. And it totally nails the oriental and brocade trend with the paisley print and mandarin style collar.

I love the fit and the shape and I can't wait to style this with little flat sandals and a cross body bag for daytime, and some strappy heels for the evening.

The dress is from a brand called Comino Couture which I recently found on ASOS. They sell some really beautiful occasion dresses, I'm also in love with the halter neck navy style.

The great thing about ASOS is finding unique little brands that you wouldn't have come across otherwise. I now have a list of brands that I love from ASOS which I check after having a look at New In! I think I might do a post on how I shop and navigate the ASOS website soon too. But for now I'm just going to be staring at my beautiful new dress!

Happy Sunday, and speak soon xx

NYE Outfit

NYE Outfit

Katherine Penney Chic Blogger NYE Fashion Dress Jack Wills Dark Green Formal

If you read my recent Wha I Got For Christmas blogpost then you will know that I actually left out a very important present from my parents. This absolutely gorgeous dress from Jack Wills. I fell in love with this dress at the end of Summer! I know, crazy! But it is honestly one of the most beautiful dresses I have ever seen.  However the price tag meant that I had to leave the dress behind, although I never stopped checking the website to see if it went down in price! But thanks to an amazing Black Friday deal my dream dress was waiting under the tree for me on Christmas Day!

Katherine Penney Chic Blogger NYE Fashion Dress Jack Wills Dark Green Formal

Naturally I will be wearing this dress to a party I am going to tonight for NYE. I bought some little navy heels to go with it, which I think will be really useful as I have so many navy dresses. And then I have my sequin navy clutch which I bought in the Accessorize January sales a couple of years ago.

For jewellery I will be picking up some of the colour in the print with some delicate gold pieces. I got this necklace a few days ago in the Accessorize sale and it is a cluster of very delicate gold stars. Very appropriate for NYE. I will also be wearing my gold watch, some little gold rings and my LINKS pearl earrings.

I have decided to try something a little different this time for makeup. I am going to attempt a glittery dark green smokey eye. I have this gorgeous shadow from The Body Shop and a matching eyeliner from The Natural Collection which I think will look really lovely.

I am also going to be wearing some individual false eyelashes for a more dramatic eye look and then keep my lipstick really natural.

Whatever you are doing tonight I hope that you have a really lovely NYE! Stay safe, have fun and I will see you in the new year! xx

Little Green Dress

Little Green Dress

Katherine Penney Chic Winter Fashion Style Dress Shift Emerald Green Pretty Preppy Casual

I'm a neutrals girl through and through. But when it gets to this time of year even I can't resits the beautiful jewel tones that start coming into shops. For years berry has always been my favourite but I have also really been loving this emerald green shade.

Katherine Penney Chic Winter Fashion Style Dress Shift Emerald Green Pretty Preppy Casual

This gorgeous green dress is from Mango which is quickly becoming one of my favourite stores. I love everything about this dress from the pretty V-neckline to the flattering 3/4 sleeves and the quality of the fabric. I also think this dress would be really versatile and could be worn for day and night.

During the day I would pair it with some cable knitted tight and my brown leather boots for a preppy style. I also think this would look great with my fur gilet or a little wool coat when it gets even colder.

In the evening I could wear this with some pretty black heels, delicate jewellery and a loose low bun for effortless glamour. And the fact that this is a shift dress means that I won't have to worry about how much I eat at dinner!

Hope you like this little dress from Mango. They have so my beautiful things in store at the moment it is almost dangerous for me to go and have a browse! Speak soon xx

The Little Black Dress

The Little Black Dress

I went out last night to see a few old school friends and I wanted to take the opportunity to show you one of my most love dresses at the moment. This little black dress was from H&M a few months ago and I can't stop wearing it. I wore it on a few nights out at university, I wore it on New Years Eve and last night when I had no idea what to wear this is what I grabbed.

I do think that a little black dress is something that every girl and woman needs. It's just so effortless yet sophisticated. Mine was so reasonable for something like £20 but I think the lace, the shape and the little capped lace sleeves make it look a lot more expensive. I like to keep my jewellery really simple when I wear this so the dress stands out more. Usually just my silver heart necklace and some pearl earrings. And what I really love about this dress at this time of year is that I can wear black tights with it to keep my legs warm and it still looks elegant. It's just so practical!

So if you haven't got one already I really recommend a little black dress. Even if you don't wear a lot of black any other time I think a dress can suit everyone. It's a real wardrobe staple.

Hope you guys are all well. Guessing most people will be back at school and work already. I'm heading back to university this Saturday. And while I really want to see my friends I don't really want to leave my family and my house.

Also, life news. I passed my driving test yesterday with only 1 minor! :) So happy and so glad that I have got it out the way before I go back. xx

Autumn Dinner Outfit

Autumn Dinner Outfit

Penney Chic autumn dress style fashion topshop

Yesterday we had a formal dinner at my halls of residence so we all had a chance to get dressed up. And believe it or not this is the first time I have worn a dress at university! I just wanted to quickly show you what I wore and how I did my makeup as I was feeling pretty Autumnal.

I've finally worked out how to position and set my camera on timer so that it focuses by sorry that the quality of the pictures aren't great. Hopefully I will get better with practice. I just thought it would be nice for you to see the dress on me rather than laying it on my bed which I have been doing for all my other outfit posts recently.

The dress that I am wearing is from Topshop and I got it in the sale a couple of years ago. It's a little small for me but I just loved it so much that I was prepared to squeeze! I just think that the colours are beautiful and that it is prefect for this time of year. It's also great because I can wear it with black tights and it can pick up the black lace on the dress.

Penney Chic beauty autumn makeup

Hehe! Looking nice and posy! For my makeup I did a little bit of a brown smokey eye with my Maybelline colour tattoo in On and on bronze and the Rimmel glam eyes palette in smokey brun. And then lots of mascara and a bit of a berry lip (although you can't really see it in the photo)

Penney Chic autumn dress style fashion topshop

Left my hair natural and kept my jewellery very simple as there is quite a lot going on in the dress already.

Love the beautiful lace detail on the dress.

Hope you like this post and are all looking forward to the weekend (and possibly half term now). I have a reading week at university which is basically a half term so tomorrow I am going to stay with my family for a few days in the peak district. It's been 6 weeks since I last saw them and I have missed them all so much. Can't wait for lots of hugs and chatting with my family and snuggles with my doggy. Might not be able to post quite as often as I really want to spend some quality time with them. Won't be seeing them after this until Christmas! Speak soon xx

The Perfect Dress For Christmas/New Year

The Perfect Dress For Christmas/New Year

A-line scoop sleeveless short tulle dress
A-line sweetheart chiffon high low dress
A-line strapless sleeveless beaded silver chiffon long dress
A-live chiffon sweetheart dark navy unique dress
A-line high neck sleeveless tulle sky blue modest dress
A-line sweetheart sleeveless black tulle glitter short dress
A-line bateau sleeveless floor length glitter dress

I know that it probably seems a little bit early for a post like this but in my opinion finding the perfect Christmas, New Years Eve or even Prom dress takes time. My year 13 Prom was in July and I ordered my dress in March!

For most of us there aren't very many times in the year when we can put on an amazing dress and feel like a princess for a night. So when there is an opportunity to get dressed up the hunt for the perfect dress is super exciting. Whether you've got a Prom coming up or this winter you have a Christmas Ball or a New Years Eve party then I wanted to do a little post on a place where you can find the most gorgeous dresses at amazing prices.

When I was looking for my prom dress at the beginning of this year I wanted something really special that no one else would have so I skipped looking on the high street and started looking on the internet instead. The website that I want the tell you about today is Aviva Dress. They provide dresses for brides, bridesmaids and special occasion events for people all over the world. And they ship in 48 hours!

Looking through their website to write this post I was amazed by the huge range of different dresses that they provide. They do long dresses, short dresses, high low dress and every other style you can imagine. I have put most of my favourites in the picture at the top of this post and the names of where you can find them below. But these are just the ones that I love and if your style is different then I am sure that you will still be able to find something that you love on their website. Another thing that is really amazing is that for a lot of the dresses you can chose different colours and for some you can even write your exact measurements so that you know the dress is going to fit perfectly. It's as if they are making the dress just for you!

The evening dresses range from very glitzy "wow" dresses to beautifully simple understated styles so there is something for everyone. And at the moment on all prom dresses there is 70%-80% off which is amazing. You can get a personalised dress that retails at £370 for £70!

I hope that this post inspires you to check out their website to start finding your perfect dress for the upcoming party season. Or even just that the pictures give you some inspiration for what you might want to wear. It gets very addictive just scrolling through all the beautiful designs, trust me! Hope you are all having a lovely weekend, Speak soon xx

Pictures From My Prom

Pictures From My Prom

Okay, I have a confession to make. On my prom day, like the most exciting day ever, I was an awful blogger. I was in such a rush to get ready for prom after my speech day that I basically took no photos before Prom and by the time that I did start to take some photos it was half way through the night and I had been dancing so my makeup was slipping off my face and my hair was falling out! But anyway, a few people said they wanted to see some pictures from my Prom, so here are a few of them. Sorry that they are not very good quality or lighting but you do gt to see my dress, and isn't the dress the most important part of Prom anyway?!

Me and my bestie

We each had to walk around the stage as they called our name!
