Autumnal Makeup Favourites

Autumnal Makeup Favourites

thumb_img_4805_1024

I'm sitting in my bedroom writing this blogpost and my hands are so cold it is almost hard to type! So while it currently feels more like Winter right now I thought it was about time I got around to talking about some of my Autumn makeup favourites.

thumb_img_4808_1024

As cliche as it is, a darker lip is one of my favourite makeup looks for this time of year. And both of my favourite shades are from Rimmel, so very inexpensive. Rimmel's Lasting Finish Lipstick in shade 128 Starry-Eyed has been my go to berry shade for a few years now, and I know I have spoken about this a few times on my blog. So I though I would introduce you to a new darker lip favourite; Rimmel's Lasting Finish by Kate in shade 48. This is a deeper brown toned colour and definietly fitting with the whole 90's trend which is still around. I find that this colour really suites my skin tones and makes my brown eyes pop. Especially with a subtle brown smokey eye and lashings of black mascara. I like to wear this during the day time dabbed onto my lips over some lipbalm, or full on colour for evenings. And the finish of these are beautiful so they last for ages!

thumb_img_4824_1024

Green eyeshadow, I know what your thinking! Sounds awful and probably reminds you of that lime green eyeshadow you got free once in a Pop magazine and used to smudge all over you lids as a child! But I'm talking about a beautiful shimmery emerald green, which FYI is my favourite colour at the moment. Maybe I'll have to do a whole blogpost on all of the emerald green additions I've been making to my wardrobe! This lovely eyeshadow from The Body Shop makes for a gorgeous and different evening smokey eye. Or take a little bit on a thin liner brush for pretty day time look.

thumb_img_4810_1024

My final Autumn favourites are jewel toned nails, particularly these stunning Essie shades. After a Summer of whites and pastels it's lovely to pick up those rich colours that just feel and look so luxurious. Burgundy on your nails at this time of year is a classic, but can sometimes be a bit over done. I think navy is a colour that people often forget, but it looks just as sophisticated. And finally back to the emerald green which I am also loving wearing on my nails.

Essie Shades:

  • Bobbing for baubles

  • Midnight Cami

  • Sugar Daddy

  • Going Incognito

  • Thigh High

  • Trophy Wife

Only a couple of weeks now and it will be Winter! And I can't wait to start getting all Christmassy!

Matte Grey

Matte Grey

thumb_IMG_2808_1024

Another day, more grey! Apart from this time on my nails...well, and my jumper is grey! I'm not sure that I will ever get bored of wearing this colour. In my opinion, nothing beats a pair of skinny jeans and a slouchy grey jumper.

thumb_IMG_2809_1024

The nail polish that I am wearing is from Essie, obviously! It is the shade Urban Jungle which is a beautiful off-white beige grey. Like I mentioned in my April Favourites I am really loving wearing nude nail polishes at the moment. They look so sophisticated and perfectly complement every outfit as well as both gold and silver jewellery.

thumb_IMG_2810_1024

I'm also wearing this gorgeous matte top coat from Accessorize, that my sister got me. I used to have another matte top coat a couple of years ago when it was a huge trend, but these nail polishes seem to go gloopey and horrible a lot quicker. I haven't tried any other nail polishes from Accessorize before but I really love the beautiful rose gold packaging. The nail polish brush is pretty thick so the top coat is easy to apply, and I was really impressed by how quickly it dried. I tend to find that using a matte top coat helps to fuse all the layers of nail polish together and generally helps my nail polish to last a few extra days too.

Hope you enjoyed this little post. I feel like I haven't spoken about nail polishes on my blog for ages, as recently I have been trying to strengthen and grow my nails and tend to only wear Essie Grow Stronger base coat. But I do have another nail polish related post planned for very soon as well.

Essie Maximillian Strasse Her

Essie Maximillian Strasse Her

Katherine Penney Chic Blogger Nail Polish Essie Grey Maximillian Strasse Pretty her beauty review

I have another Essie nail polish to share with you! I know, I am basically addicted to Essie, but this one was a late birthday present. Promise!

The nail polish is called Maximillian Strasse Her, and I'm not gonna lie to you and pretend that I have any idea what that is meant to mean. But the shade is very pretty! I would definitely describe it as a grey shade but it has a a slight bluey green tint to it, like a little bit of teal.

Katherine Penney Chic Blogger Nail Polish Essie Grey Maximillian Strasse Pretty her beauty review
Like all Essie nail polishes this is just beautiful to apply and you can actually get away with just one coat of this one. It's very similar to a shade that I already have called Parka Perfect but lighter and without any glitter. I think this is a great shade for the transition into Autumn as it is light, but not bright and looks very classy. Also you can match your grey nails with the weather which is what I am doing right now!

I got this Essie polish as a birthday present from the people I work with at Joules, how sweet are they?! They also got me this really cute card that they had all signed! I am really lucky to work with such lovely people.

Saltwater Happy

Katherine Penney Chic Essie Nail Polish Beauty Review Blue Pastel Summer 2015 New Pretty manicure Saltwater happy

Eek! This is the latest edition to my Essie nail polish collection, I am officially obsessed. When I was younger I used to collect things like Me To You bears and Polly Fashion dolls, now it is just Essie nail polish. But the idea of having lots of the same brand thing but in different styles or colour, that I can line up and display beautiful together just makes me happy, and Essie nail polishes are just so beautiful!

This nail polish is one from Essie's Summer 2015 collection. When I first saw it in Boots the other day while shopping for a present for my friend I knew there was no way I was going home without it! It was actually the only shade from the new collection that I was really drawn to. The shade is called Saltwater Happy which I just think is the cutest name for a nail polish ever!

Katherine Penney Chic Essie Nail Polish Beauty Review Blue Pastel Summer 2015 New Pretty manicure Saltwater happy

As you can see it is a beautiful pastel blue shade but unlike one that I have seen before. I think that it has a slight lavander tint which makes it appear a bluey lilac in some light. It's pastel but not too pale, yet still manages to be subtle at the same time. I am just so in love with this shade and haven't stopped admiring my nails since I first put it on.

Katherine Penney Chic Essie Nail Polish Beauty Review Blue Pastel Summer 2015 New Pretty manicure Saltwater happy

I have a few blue shade from Essie now which makes me very happy as I can line them up like this and take lots of WeHeartIt style photos! I have the classic Mint Candy Apple which I think was one of the first Essie nail polishes I ever got. And I still wear this one all the time, especially when Spring arrives and I dig out all my pastel shades. In the middle is the latest edition Saltwater Happy. And on the end is Parka Perfect which is my more Wintery blue shade. This has a grey tint and a light shimmer and is always a lovely alternative to glitter and berry shades at Christmas time.

Blanc Nails

Blanc Nails

Katherine Penney Chic Essie Nail Polish White Beauty Spring Modern Clean Review

I had wanted a white nail polish for such a long time, so when Boots had a 3 for 2 on all makeup I had to pick up the perfect shade of white from my favourite nail polish brand, Essie. I can't image how many times I have gone on about my love for Essie on this blog, so I won't go on about how amazing they are for too long. But they are honestly the best polishes that I have ever tried.

The shade that I picked up was the shade Blanc which is a true white shade with no shimmer. I know that often a lot of pastel and white shades come out very thin and you have to do several coats before it starts to look like the colour in the bottle. And even though I know Essie is an amazing brand part of me still expected to have to do several coats just because white is such a light colour. But after one coat of this I knew that wasn't going to be the case because this polish is just so opaque. I ended up doing two coats just to fill in any little gaps and to neaten everything up. But this went on so smoothly and beautifully and tried pretty quickly two.

Katherine Penney Chic Essie Nail Polish White Beauty Spring Modern Clean Review

The other thing that I was worried about was that because I haven't seen any sun in what feels like forever and I literally have no colour a white nail polish would totally wash me out and look awful. And even though I do think that this would look a hundred times better with a bit of a tan I still love that way that it looks right now. It's worth spending a bit of time shaping your nails before as the bright white does draw attention to them. But the colour just looks so chic and crisp and modern. And with my gold watch and a couple of gold rings I felt like I had got the whole look nailed! Geddit?!

Anyway, bad jokes aside this is a really great white polish and it should only take you two coats to get a perfect opaque white colour. Also Essie as a brand is brilliant, but maybe I am slightly biased?! xx

Essie Power Clutch

Essie Power Clutch

Katherine Penney Chic Style Beauty Manicure Nails Polish Essie Khaki Spring Pretty Gold Rings Urban Modern

I've literally just spend the last 40 minutes or so watching the lastest episode of TOWIE (don't hate, it's a guilty pleasure!) and painting my nails. And after a few weeks of wearing lots of neutrals and pastel shades I decided to go for this beautiful shade of khaki. And as soon as I put it on my nails I just fell in love with it so I thought that I would share some pictures with you.

The shade is Essie Power Clutch. Not a shade that you really hear about much, if ever but I really think that it deserves a little mention. It really is such a perfect transitional shade for this time of year when you are starting to get excited for Spring but the weather isn't yet agreeing! The khaki shade is dark but not too bold and I think it would compliment most skin tones, especially with a few pretty gold rings.

Essie Shearling Darling and Rimmel Glitter Bomb Top Coat

Essie Shearling Darling and Rimmel Glitter Bomb Top Coat

Katherine Penney Chic essie shearling darling rimmel glitter nail polish

After the Christmas lights turn on and a day spent wondering around the Manchester Christmas markets I am starting to feel super festive! So when it came to painting my nails a few days ago I decided to go for something a little Christmassy!

Both the nail polishes that I chose are new to me so I really wanted to share with you what I thought of them. The first is Essie's Shearling Darling polish which is a really sophisticated dark red/maroon and perfect for this time of year. Like pretty much all of the Essie nail polishes that I have tried it is amazing quality and a lovely thick brush. For top coat I chose the Rimmel glitter bomb top coat in Disco Diva because I am a sucker for anything sparkly! Especially at this time of year! It's fine silver glitter with larger pink glitter and look just beautiful when it catches the light. And I found that over a colour one coat of this is perfect.

I really love this combination of polishes but to be honestly I think that this glitter top coat would look great over a lot of colours and I can't wait to try it over other shades!

Hope you are all well. Exactly one month until Christmas now! :D xx

Nails And Necklaces

I wanted to share with you the nail polish and necklace that I am wearing this morning. This is one of my new nail polishes from Essie called Parka Perfect. As soon as I put this on my nails I just fell in love with the colour. It's like a greyish blue with a tiny bit of sparkle in. I haven't really seen anything like this before and I just think it is beautiful as perfect for this time of year. Also how cute is the name?! I also wanted to show you this beautiful necklace that my sister gave to me when I saw her last week. It's so sweet that she spent her birthday money buying me some presents and I really do miss her a lot.

Nails - Essie Parka Perfect

Necklace - Accessorize
Watch - Nixon
Rings - H&M

Just a really quick post today as I have so much university work that I really need to get on with. I love taking beautiful pictures and writing up blog posts and honestly I would spend all my time doing it if I could. Recently I have been trying to post again everyday and while I have been managing I am starting to feel that it is at the expense of other things such as work. I am getting all my university work dome but I want to spend more time doing things such as extra reading and outside of lecture revision so I can really get the most that I can from my course. From now on I think I will try and post every other day to help me create a better balance between work, seeing friends and family, my blog and everything else. Hope you all understand :) Speak soon xx

Winter Essie Haul

Winter Essie Haul

Winter Essie Polishes

Winter essie nail polishes

A few days ago I read a post by Miss Makeup Magpie about an Essie Haul that she had done on a website called Fragrance Direct which is selling Essie nail polishes for £2.50. You can check out her post and see the colours that she bought here. I'd never heard of this website before but I really am so happy that I have as I found some really great bargains.

In Boots Essie nail polishes are sold for £7.99 and from salons they are even more expensive. So I can't believe how cheap these polishes are, especially considering they are some of the new shades. As well as 32 of the regular polishes they also sell two of the snake skin nail polishes and two of the multidimensional top coats.

The shades that I picked up were:
Shearling Darling - A beautiful sophisticated dark browny plum

Belugaria - a black with large glitter pieces in that I think will be great for Halloween!
Ignite the night - A very fine silver glittery polish perfect for the upcoming party season

Parka Perfect - This is my favourite and one that I have wanted for a while. It's a bluey grey with a hint of sparkle running though. So beautiful and usual and I think this will look lovely for every season.

I also picked up a couple of Calvin Klein lipsticks for less than £2 which I will write about once I have used then a bit and done some samples. So if you haven't checked out fragrance direct then you can click the link here. I especially recommend it is you are an Essie obsessive like myself. I've been back on their website since and made another wishlist for more polishes. So far I'm staying strong though!

My Top Essie Spring Nail Polishes

My Top Essie Spring Nail Polishes

I think that one of the best and least expensive way to update you look for Spring is with nail polish colours. And my personal favourite are Essie which are not sold in my local Boots and they are about the only thing that I spend my Boots card points on. What I really love about Essie nail polishes is their formula and how long lasting they are. At the moment I am wearing Lilacism which is a lovely lilac colour, as the name would suggest! I painted my nails last Tuesday night in a bit of a rush and I didn't have time to do a top coat. But it is Monday morning as I am writing this and so far only one nail has chipped slightly which is totally amazing in my opinion.

For Spring time I really love pastel colours and bright peachy colours. And I think that Spring is the perfect time to get a bit more experimental with nails and I have also really enjoyed using glitter nail polish, often only on my fourth finger (accent nail).

So below I am listing my Essie Spring nail polish favourites in order of the top photo.

Tart Deco
This is a beautiful orangey peach colour. I love this kind of coral colour for the spring and then it looks even more amazing for summer on the beach with a tan.

Sparkle On Top
This is just a lovely glitter top coat but it looks a little different as the glitter pieces are all different sizes which I really love.

Lilacism
This is just the most gorgeous lavender colour. If you are looking for lilac with not a lot/any blue shades in then this is the colour for you. It looks really classy as it is not overly in you face but it is a little different than pinks or nudes.

Cute As A Button
Firstly, how cute is this name? This is a really bright hot pink with a hint of orange tones though it. This makes any outfit a bit more fun and just like the coral I think this will look even more amazing with a tan in Summer and paired with white clothes.

Pearly White
This colour is really smart and just so pretty. The formula is a bit thin so it needs a couple of coats but the pearl finish is just stunning and I love wearing this on my nails.

Mint Candy Apple
Everyone was talking about this nail polish last year and I loved it then and still love it now. This is just the most beautiful pale turquoise, not too blue or too green. Need I say more?

Fiji

One of my friends made me buy this and I'm really glad that I did. I don't even know how this works but this colour is just so opaque and could even be done in just one coat! This is probably one of my all time favourite colours ever. It is pretty and feminine, goes with absolutely everthing and just looks so smart and classy. I believe every girl needs a colour like this in their life.

Hope you enjoyed reading this post. Let me know what nail polish shades you guys are loving for Spring. Sometime this week I will also be doing a post on other brand nail polish that I love wearing for Spring as well so keep an eye out for that.
