March Favourites

March Favourites

A few favourites for this month. March has felt like such a busy month but at the same time when I think about it, nothing out of the ordinary has really happened. The end of March does mark one thing though, Summer is nearly here! And despite it being pretty cloudy outside the sun is definitely trying to peek its way through! Any, on to the things that I have been loving.

Katherine Penney Chic Monthly favourites Beauty Skincare Makeup

Botanics Dry Brush
This month I have really been getting in to dry brushing again. I do this nearly everyday before I have a shower using long strokes upwards. As well as feeling really therapeutic and exfoliation dry brushing has many other benefits including increasing circulation and reducing cellulite.

Clinique Anti-blemish Solution
Recently I have been taking a lot better care of my skin with a few small step that really have made a noticeable different. I think soon I will do a whole post on that. But for the moment I have really been loving using this product on my skin. As soon as I feel a spot appearing I use a little bit of this a few times a day and it will literally just make it disappear! I also used this every morning before moisturiser on problems areas and find that it really helps too.

Natural Collection Eyeshadow in Crushed Walnut
During March I was more into a "no makeup makeup look" and this eyeshadow was one of the products I would always reach for the achieve this. I would use this with the angled Ecotools brush instead of a liquid eyeliner for a more smoky but subtle effect. This just looks really natural and the colour is a great alternative to black.

Boots Simply Sensitive Hydrating Eye Cream
Earlier this month I was really suffer from quite sore and dry eyes. I hadn't been using an eye cream in a white and I knew that I really needed to get back into using one. But when I went to Boots I was amazing at how ridiculously expensive most of the eye creams were. A lot of them were about £10-£15 and were advertising as "wrinkle reduction", not something that I think I need quite yet. I just wanted a really hydrating eye cream that wouldn't irritate my sensitive eyes or break my bank! And this is what I managed to find and I am so impressed. It's really light and easy to blend so I never feel like I am tugging on my eyes. It's really hydrating and it never stings or irritates my eyes. My sore dry eyes have completely gone away and I can't recommend this product enough!

Sleek Lipstick in Barely There
With Spring pretty much here I have been trying to transition my makeup to something a bit lighter and a bit more brightening. And to do that I love this peachy coral colour from Sleek. The formula is lovely and glossy and this colour is just so pretty for this time of year. I feel like it really brightens up my makeup look and is just so pretty.

I hope that April will bring us some more sunshine and warmer days. I am so desperate to sit in the garden with a magazine and a cold drink but it isn't quite warm enough for that yet. Fingers crossed that April will be the month! xx

Some Details From Today

Katherine Penney Chic Bedroom Decor Interior Flowers Roses White Cream Radio Pictures

It's finally the weekend! Not that it really makes much of a difference now that I am just at home on holiday but Friday evenings are always my favourite. Today mum was throwing a lunch for all of her friends so I spent the morning helping her in the kitchen with the food and making everything look nice. I really wish I had taken some pictures as when everything was set up it was lovely with the bunting, the fairylights and the pretty flowers on the table.

But at midday my brother Nick and I went to Pizza Express in town to get out of the way a bit. And it was lovely just to get out now that it is getting a bit warmer and have a long chat with him. Since getting back from town and picking at all the left over food from the lunch (someone left some nice brownies!) I really don't know what I have done today! At least I still have the evening to waste away!

Beautiful white roses. These are just my favourite and I love the way that they look in my room with all the cream and white.

It's so lovely to be back in my room at home it's so much bigger, doesn't get anywhere near as dusty and just feels so pretty and light.

Some accessories. Finally sunny enough to get out my sunglasses. I think these ones are from Forever 21 and I love them. Most of the time I just like wearing sunglasses on my head, makes it look like I have done something a bit more with my hair! And I've really loved using this little satchel bag I found when clearing out my closet. Helps me keep my packing to a minimal so I am not carrying around a load of junk all day!

Katherine Penney Chic Daily Makeup Beauty Cream eyeshadows Bronze Mac Perfume Book

Some makeup bits. These are the products that I have been reaching for on the days that I wear makeup. My Marc Jacobs Daisy Dream is back at university but this Anais Anais perfume is a lovely floral Spring scent. And I think that I am going to do a whole post on my go to eye makeup look. I'm really into cream eye shadows and a bronze look at the moment.

Hope everyone has a lovely start to the weekend. Speak soon xx

Kylie Jenner Inspired Look - Fuller Lips Trick

Kylie Jenner Inspired Look - Fuller Lips Trick

Katherine Penney Chic Beauty Makeup Kylie Jenner Inspired Celeb Lashes Lips Fuller Plump Night Out

I have some pictures from a night out probably about a week ago now but I really wanted to share them with you as I really loved my makeup. The look that I was going for was kind of Kylie Jenner inspired although I don't look anything like her. I really wanted to do my own take on the nude eyes, big fluttery lashes and matte nude lips.

Katherine Penney Chic Beauty Makeup Kylie Jenner Inspired Celeb Lashes Lips Fuller Plump Night Out

To get my lashes as long and fluttery as possible I used Benefit Roller Lash mascara. I got the free sample with an Elle magazine and I haven't used any other mascara since. I wear this same mascara for everyday but for evenings you can really layer it up to get that false lash effect look and it doesn't go clumpy.

For my Kylie Jenner inspired lips I first outlined my lips with MaXfactor colour elixir lip liner in 02 Pink Petal. This is a really lovely nude shade and I use this to slightly overdraw my lips and make them appear a bit fuller. I then used my Mac lipstick in Patisserie all over over my lips for my base nude shade. Using the tip of Rimmel lasting finish lipstick by Kate in the shade 08 I created a shadow on my lips. I did this by outlining my lips again especially on the bottom of my bottom lip and then smoothed it all out with my finger so there were no harsh lines. And finally I dabbed a little bit of white eyeshadow onto the centre of my bottom lip to make them appear really plump.

This beautiful black lace skater dress from H&M was such a good buy, I have worn this so many times as you can just throw it on for an effortless dressed up look and there are so many different ways that you can style it. A little black dress is something that every girl should have in their wardrobe!

Hope you liked this little style post. For the last few days I have just been lounging around the house with no makeup on and wearing lounge pants! And now looking at all these pictures makes me wish that I had something to get all dressed up for and spend time doing nice makeup. But I think tonight is just another Netflix evening! xx

Present From Paris

Present From Paris

Katherine Penney Chic Beauty Skincare La Roche Posay Serozinc Toner Magazines Paris

For the last couple of days my dad has been on a business trip to Paris, something that happens every few months with his work. And everytime that he goes there is one thing that I ask him to pick up for me - La Roche Posay Serozinc.

I know that this is now available in the UK online but it is so much easier for him to pick it up for me while he is in Paris - not sure if it is a little cheaper too! And last night he got home and no only had he picked up FOUR bottles of Serozinc but he also had a few magazine that he had got for free! His trip really couldn't have come at a better time for me as I was just about to run out of my last bottle too!

Katherine Penney Chic Beauty Skincare La Roche Posay Serozinc Toner Magazines Paris

I like to use Serozinc as a toner after my face wash in the morning and evening. I'm not really too sure what this product actually does or is meant to do. All I know is that a the end of Summer I stopped using it for about a month and all of the little bumps on my skin came back. And then as soon as I started using it again they disappeared! So if you haven't tried it and you suffer from little bumps on your skin that never form spots but are impossible to get rid of, then I really recommend Serozinc.

And if you have tried it I would love to know what you think and whether you have any other La Roche Posay recommendations for me. xx

Navy And Plaid

Navy And Plaid

Katherine Penney Chic Fashion Style Plaid Shirt Navy Blue Spring Outfit

After having a huge clear out of my wardrobe I found a pair of jeans that I hadn't worn in ages. They are quite a light jeans and pretty summery but I wanted to find a way to make them work for the transition into Spring while it is still pretty chilly. And if you have seen my wardrobe Spring clean (scroll down to the post below!) then you may notice the similar colour scheme!

Katherine Penney Chic Fashion Style Plaid Shirt Navy Blue Spring Outfit

To balance out the light jeans I paired them with this smart navy coat from River Island. And then to tie the whole outfit together I wore this casual plaid shirt which I think compliments both the other shades of blue and adds a bit of a pattern to the outfit. Then I wore a little white last vest top and undid the shirt an extra button for a more casual thrown on look. This also helps to add a little bit of extra detailing and texture to the look. And for jewellery I kept it very simple with my silver heart necklace and my rose gold watch. I also wore my fur bobble hat as it was a little chilly and I will use basically any excuse to wear this hat!

A Wardrobe Spring Clean

A Wardrobe Spring Clean

Katherine Penney Chic Clothes Wardrobe Closet Spring Clean Organisation Sorting Decor Bedroom

Arriving back from university about to unpack a load of clothes (some of which were new!) I decided that it would be a perfect time to finally sort out my wardrobe. A good old Spring clean! Since going to university it has become a lot more obvious which clothes I wear all the time and probably couldn't live without and which clothes I had forgotten actually existed.

I started off with sorting my shoes and bags and dividing them into three piles; keep, Charity Shop and throw. It sounds silly but I found that I had three pair of shoes that were so old and in such awful condition that I would never wear them out, but I couldn't bring myself to get rid of them because I had had them for so long and they had memories! In the end I managed to throw away those three pairs of shoes and then fill a whole big bag of shoes and bags for the Charity Shop.

Next I decided to start on my clothes as I knew I had a lot of clothes that I hadn't worn in years. Starting at one end of my closet I went through every coat hanger decided what I did and didn't wear. If I hadn't worn it in the last year then it was definitely out. After I had unpacked my clothes from university I was left with the clothes that I wore all the time, with a clear colour theme!

Katherine Penney Chic Clothes Wardrobe Closet Spring Clean Organisation Sorting Decor Bedroom

I arranged the clothes in the order outwear, jumpers and cardigans, shirts and blouses, tops, dresses, and suits and workwear. And then within each section I put the clothes in to a colour order so it was easier to find different pieces and the sections were more clear. Some people like to arrange all by style, or all by colour or grouping things that they wear together in sections. So really it is just whatever works best for you.

Katherine Penney Chic Clothes Wardrobe Closet Spring Clean Organisation Sorting Decor Bedroom

The final thing that I did to neaten up my wardrobe was something that I hadn't done before but I wish I did a lot earlier. I had always had a total mis-match of hangers it basically whatever I am given or whatever I can find. But what I did was I went around the rest of my house and swapped the hangers that I had for these white wire hangers as they look the neatest. And I kept a few stronger wooden hangers for my outwear and workwear. I love how neat and put together this looks and I think something as simple as the same hangers can really neaten up your closet.

Having a closet like this has just made it so much easier and more fun to get ready in the morning. I can see everything in all the different sections and pick out different pieces to mix and match. And it sounds silly but I feel like one of those 20-something women with their life together picking the perfect outfit for the day ahead out of their beautiful closet!

Katherine Penney Chic Clothes Wardrobe Closet Spring Clean Organisation Sorting Decor Bedroom

I also did a quick clear up of my drawers although these weren't actually too bad. I just put my tops into colour and style piles so it would be easier to find what I was looking for.

I hope that this has inspired you to maybe have a bit of a clear out. You might find loads of room for new bits and pieces. I would be lying if I said that I hadn't done any internet shopping since! I know that it does take a bit of time, and if you haven't done it in a while it can be so daunting. But it really is worth it, a clean fresh start for Spring. And you never know, you might find your favourite jumper that you though you lost months ago shoved down the back of you closet! xx

Today In Pictures - 21/03/2015

Katherine Penney Chic Green Tea Vogue Magazine

Happy Saturday everyone! Hope you are all having a nice relaxing weekend, I certainly am. It's so lovely being back home with all of my home comforts. And I know that I really should get started on some of my coursework but I can't bring myself to do it quite yet!

Today it feels like I haven't really done anything but when I think about it I have done quite a bit. This morning I had a lie in and then went on a quick run around the block. And then I had lunch with my mum and sister and I ate loads. We had picks like fresh bread, different cheeses, nice ham, salad bits and chicken soup. Normally I'd think that was pretty boring but after being at university for so long things like Edam become a luxury!

Katherine Penney Chic flowers spring

Spring is finally here! Although the weather today was so cold and windy. Apparently in Manchester it was lovely again so part of me wishes I was still up there just to catch some sun - I really need it! My dad bought me these beautiful flowers when he got back from him business trip last night.

In the afternoon we had a little wonder around town as we had a few jobs to do and I needed to pick up a few thing, from Boots of course! I bought all the things I actually needed like conditioner, cotton pads and deodorant but Boots was having a 3 for 2 across all makeup and I just couldn't say no to that!

Right now I have a long list of my phone of all the beauty products that I want to try after reading other people's blogs and watching too many YouTube videos. So  managed to pick up a couple of things from my list. The first thing I had to pick up was the L'oreal matte eyeshadow in 106 as early in the morning somehow mine had smashed and it went everywhere when I tried to open it. So I decided that I use it nearly everyday as a crease shade so rather than try and work with it going everywhere it would just be easier to get a new one. Really hope this one doesn't crack though. I also picked up a white nail polish as I have been seeing this look a lot for Spring and I think it looks so lovely and fresh. And finally (after a sneaky look in the drawers below the stands!) I managed to find this MaXfactor excess shimmer cream shadow in the shade copper. I've heard a few people talk about this and I was so desperate to try it. I'm just a total sucker for cream shadows at the moment, especially a shimmery nude shade like this one. Can'y wait to wear this and let you know how I get on.

About to have dinner now. The excitement I now get over home cooked food is actually ridiculous! And then we having a bit of a girls night and going to the cinema to see Insurgent. I loved Divergent, wish I had a chance to watch it again before seeing the film but I'm sure it will all come back to me!
