Swimsuit of Dreams

I honestly can't remember the last time that I wore a swimsuit previous to this one. I think it was probably about 7 years ago for a PE lesson, so it would have been one of those horrible black ones with the unflattering neckline that go see-through in the wrong places all to quickly! So naturally, with all those awful memories of one piece costumes, the swimsuit to get me to fall back in love with swimsuits needed to be a bit special. And with the florals, the frills and the beautiful back detail, I think I have found the one.

There is a hint of Dolce and Gabbana about the print and something slightly "grannyish" about the costume. Almost so bold, floral and frilly that it really shouldn't work; but it totally does! My brother's exact words were "that is the most hideous thing you have ever worn!". My mum on the other hand loves it so much that she bought a dress in the same print! And I am just obsessed with this swimsuit!

For a girl that lives in neutrals and breton stripes yellow florals are not something I would usually consider. But swimsuits are huge this year and I really wanted to buy into the trend this Summer. I initially started searching online, filtering by the colour black thinking that this would be the most flattering. But they either reminded me way too much of my school days, or they were so revealing and seemed to have even less fabric than a bikini! And then the one time that I forgot to filter my search I came across this little H&M number and knew it was the one.

I'm very fussy when it comes to shopping for swimwear. I find that with such little fabric and so much skin on show there is a fine line between classy and well, not so classy. And when most of my holidays tend to consist of family, I like my swimwear to be family appropriate! And I completely forgot how practical swimsuits are. There are no issues when you are jumping the waves or going down a water slide! Plus, this costume looks amazing with a little pair of denim shorts, something I'd feel comfortable wearing in a cafe after the beach.

Personally I think this beautiful costume is better suited to my previous holiday in Bali! For now though, I am in Cornwall wearing a swimsuit that I will definietly not be swimming in, as I can't even begin to describe how cold the sea is here! But at least it's pretty!

New Favourite Jumper

New Favourite Jumper

Katherine Penney Chic Blogger Jumper H&M Minimal New Style White Stripes Grey

I thought that it was about time that I shared with you the jumper that I have basically been living in for the last week. I spotted it last weekend and immediately fell in love. It is the perfect combination of everything I love. A soft slouchy jumper, pale grey, a crew neckline, and navy and white stripes.

I am really loving H&M right now, they have some really lovely pieces that look really expensive. I am also all about a more minimal style of dressing at the moment. So this jumper with this simple layered gold necklace also from H&M and some skinny jeans has become my everyday uniform.

The Blanket Scarf

The Blanket Scarf

I am so excited to share my new winter scarf with you. I say scarf, but I've been using it as a blanket justas much! I think it is the best purchase that I have made in a while, well since my Longchamp bag!

I will be the first to admit that a scarf is the last thing I needed. I have way too many, but my collection was missing just a simple plain grey scarf. I have wanted the typical ACNE scarf for years, so when I spotted this one in H&M for about a quarter of the price I felt like it was made just for me!
It's 100% wool and is honestly so warm and cosy. As a scarf or a blanket!

I have been wearing this so often recently as the weather has started to get much colder. but this is one of my favourite ways to wear it, thin white jumper, dark jeans, my leather jacket and this big grey scarf. It is such a simple outfit, partly inspired by my favourite fashion blogger, Mariannan. I love the different textures and the monochromatic colours that make this outfit feel really classic.

Hope you like this simple outfit post. If you are interested in the scarf then you can check it out here. Hope everyone has a lovely weekend xx

H&M Beauty Bits

H&M Beauty Bits

Katherine Penney Chic Blogger Bblogger Beauty Makeup H&M Jewellery White Gold Makeup bag Pretty Girlie

Last weekend I made a little trip to H&M to check out their new beauty range. They have just brought out a 700 piece collection, including lipsticks, eyeshadows, face products and lots of beauty tools, with prices starting from £1.90. So naturally, I had to go and cover the back of my hand in all the different colours.
Thankfully they provide makeup wipes!

Firstly I actually love the packaging of the products, the white and gold is right up my street. It looks so sleek and expensive.
Eyeshadow is probably my favourite makeup to shop for, I love looking at all the different colours (even though I am always drawn to the neutral shades!). H&M had a whole stand for all the different individual eyeshadows. They have such an incredible selection of matte, shimmery and really glittery shades in a huge range of colour. And what did I go for? An almost matte light brown!

The shade that I went for is called Candied Almond, which I think is a really cute name. I love the warm tones and how this appears to be matte until you look really closely and see there is a slight shimmer. I tried this shade the other day all over my lids, blended into my crease and then a little along my lower lash line. I was so impressed by the pigmentation and how easy this was so blend. For the price of £4.99 I definitely feel that these are some of the best eyeshadows that the highstreet has to offer. And I will definitely be going back to try some of the other shades.

The other section that I was drawn to was the lipstick collection, again the beautiful white and gold packaging in so many different shades. I was drawn to this beautiful deep red shade as I thought it would look perfect for this time of year. The shade is called Fareham Brick and it's a matte shade but still very creamy. I wore this a couple of days ago with winged liner and lots of mascara and it looked so chic. This is beautiful to apply and lasted a good 2/3 hours before I needed to reapply. I think the deep red is a really unique shade and looks so pretty for Autumn.

I have needed a new makeup bag for such a long time now, my old one has lost all of its colour and actually looks pretty gross. But trying to find a pretty and practical decent sized makeup bag actually proved a lot harder than I expected. So when I spotted this one in the makeup section I knew it was exactly what I had been looking for. It's in a gorgeous taupe colour with a gold zip on the main compartment and a little front pocket. I am just in love with this and I think that it looks so much more expensive than it really was.

I also picked up these pretty gold eyelash curlers as my ones at the moment have definitely seen better days. Even a deep clean didn't save them this time. However these H&M ones are not what I am used to. At the moment I am finding it hard to get the curlers right up to my lash line to get a really good curl. Although I am going to keep trying with these an then let you know what I think.

The last thing that I couldn't resit was this delicate gold layered necklace. H&M jewellery is a little hit and miss for me. I find their chunkier statement pieces a bit too much. But they also do some really delicate necklaces that look really minimal and modern. This one just had the three layers and is slightly longer than most of the pendents that I own.

Hope you liked this little haul. Overall I am so impressed by H&M makeup. The prices are good, the packaging is lovely and the quality is so lovely. I would definitely recommend you check these out if they look like they are up your street. And let me know in the comments if you have tried anything from H&M beauty range and what you thought of it. xx

Mini Haul

Mini Haul

Katherine Penney Chic Blogger Fashion Style WInter New Haul Zara Parka Coat Grey Knit Jumper H&M

On Thursday I had the day off work so I went out for the day with my boyfriend Jack to do some shopping and go to the cinema. We saw the Disney Pixar film Inside Out which I have wanted to see for ages. It was such a great film, made me laugh and even cry at one point! And I just think it is so cute the idea that we have little emotion people in our heads!

Anyway, it wasn't a very long shopping trip but one where I saw so many things I wanted! I didn't go too crazy, although I have spent most of the money I have made so far this week, but I did pick up a few pieces that I wanted to share with you.

The first place that I went was H&M which is a store that I really like although recently I feel some of their clothes are starting to look a little cheap. However I did spot this beautiful grey jumper that in my opinion is perfect. And I was almost tempted to buy like five of the same jumper as it is so cheap and I know I am just going to live in this! The fabric is soft but it feels quite weighty and isn't see-though. And it is just slouchy and comfy but I think with some delicate jewellery it still looks really pretty. Which leads me on to the necklace here which I also picked up from H&M. It's just this really simple layered gold necklace that will go with so many outfits and just looks really beautiful. Someone even asked me if it was real gold yesterday, so for £4 it was a total bargain!

I just love this jumper! Wish they did it in other colours as I would probably buy them all! But I think this is probably how I will wear it, with the sleeves rolled up as it looks even more flattering.

The next place I went to was Zara, my favourite shop ever. They had a few bits left in the sale so I had a little look and spotted this coat. I have always wanted a khaki parka with a big fur hood. So when I spotted this one, on its own, in my size I knew it was meant to be!

This is actually the second winter coat that I have bought in the past couple of weeks! My other one is from ASOS and it is very different, and slightly out of my comfort zone. I can't wait to take some nice photos of it and share that one with you though.

Might not be able to post for the next couple of days, tomorrow and I working all day again and then it is my birthday on Monday! So I'm off work and I think I am going up to London to Sea Life which is very exciting. Either way, I will be taking lots of photos for you so I can post them afterwards. Speak soon xx

Late Summer Haul

Late Summer Haul

I was actually meant to write this post before I went away to Spain, but I wasn't happy with a few of the photos that were taken and didn't have time to retake them before I went away. I decided that I would rather post less frequent high quality posts that I have spent time on and am really proud of than something that is rushed and I don't feel totally happy about.

On the Friday before I went away to Spain I went to Bluewater with my mum with the intention of buying some jeans as I was desperate. And I did manage to get some jeans but I also got a few other bits and pieces, as is always the way! SO hope you enjoy this little haul!

The first thing that I wanted to share with you was this little white top that wasn't from Bluewater but was actually bought by my mum from Sainsbury's. She bought it for herself, but the sizes come up very small so when I asked to try it on I didn't want to give it back! But it was such a bargain that she didn't mind!

Katherine Penney Chic Summer haul high street H&M Zara Topshop White Short pyjamas Lace Pretty Girlie

Simple white tops are so useful and I love the beautiful crochet detail. The will look beautiful in summer with some shorts or under a little jacket, but I also thought when it starts to get colder you could wear this under a little jumper with just the lace showing at the bottom.

Katherine Penney Chic Summer haul high street H&M Zara Topshop White Short pyjamas Lace Pretty Girlie

The purchase was actually something else that I desperately needed. While starting to pack for Spain I realised that my favourite white shorts, after an obvious suncream leak were no longer wearable! What I loved about my old white shorts is that they were a little scuffed up and had some lovely cut out detail around the bottom.. So when I saw these lovely ones in Zara with a frayed hem and crochet detail on the sides I knew they were perfect. Unlike my old ones these are also high waisted which I love even more and think they are very flattering with a little top tucked in.

Not really a summer collection, but the magazies are already taking about A/W 2015 fashion so I guess it's okay. I picked this lovely jumper up in the Topshop sale. It's striped, nothing new there, but it is so slouchy, comfy and warm. And I think this will be perfect for when I am back at University and need some comfy clothes to work in.

Katherine Penney Chic Summer haul high street H&M Zara Topshop White Short pyjamas Lace Pretty Girlie

I actually ordered these pyjamas online, but they came the same day as this shopping trip so I thought that I would throw them in this haul anyway. I ordered these when I realised that I had no Summer pyjamas to take to Spain that I wanted to be seen by anyone in. Most of my pyjamas are from Primark who do have a great selection which are very reasonable. But mine were also very old, a little to small, buttons were falling off, holes were appearing so I felt new pyjamas were necessary.

Katherine Penney Chic Summer haul high street H&M Zara Topshop White Short pyjamas Lace Pretty Girlie

I found this set online from H&M and loved how cute they were. They were around £15 plus postage which for me was expensive for pyjamas but I absolutely love them. And I actually ended up wearing them most evenings in Spain!

And finally these are the jeans that I went to Bluewater for! I probably tried on about 15 pairs of jeans that day. But good fitting jeans are so hard to find. I finally found this pair in Zara in exactly the same style as my black jeans just in denim. What I love about these jeans is the stretch in them which makes them so flattering to wear.

Hope you liked this little Summer haul. I have actually done a bit more online shopping since so I can't wait to show you what I picked up from the Mango sale and some other places. Speak soon lovelies xx

A Few New Things

A Few New Things

Penney Chic shopping haul H&M beauty makeup jewellery

Just wanted to share with you a few really pretty and not very expensive little things that I picked up the other day. The first place that I went was TK Maxx which is a shop I feel I am getting a little bit obsessed with. When I walk in there I always head straight to the makeup section as you can find some really great stuff there like brands that are harder to find or more expensive brands for really cheap. I picked up this elf jumbo eyeshadow stick in a really beautiful bronze shade. Then when I was heading to the till I spotted this eyeshadow brush and I really wanted to try it out.

After that I quickly popped into H&M and found myself loving a lot of the things in the accessories section. But I managed to limit myself to this little pale pink pouch for about £5 and this set of a moon and star necklaces for £3. I thought that the pouch would be great for cards and money when I am only taking a clutch out and I thought that the necklaces were so pretty with a simple top or jumper.

Hope you liked this little haul of just a few little bits and pieces. I'm back at university after spending a lovely few days in the Peak District with my family. Speak soon xx

Mini Haul - Black and White

Mini Haul - Black and White

I feel like my current love for monochrome is starting to get a little bit out of hand! It seems like everything I buy is either black, white or a mix of the two. But anyway, recently (as always!) I have been doing a little bit of shopping and I wanted to show you what I have been buying.

The first thing that I bought was this cami top from River Island. I've seen a lot of people wearing this top in different colours but the print of this one really caught my eye. It's quite unusual and I thought it would look great with jeans and my black leather jacket. What I really love about this top though is the neckline as it is really flattering.

The other black and white print top that I got was this one from Topshop. I'd tried it on in the shop before and fallen in love with it, but I just couldn't bring myself to part with £38! So when the student lock-in came around in Manchester I had 20% off plus a £5 gift card I finally allowed myself to buy the top. It was around £25 which I think is still a little pricey but I also think that the cut, print and shape make this top look a lot more expensive.
One think that does annoy me slightly though is that Topshop seem to be copying this print onto everything, leggings, crop tops, sleeveless tops etc and since I've bought this I've seen so many people wearing this print. Oh well, it's still beautiful!

I especially love the back of this top as I think that the stripe with the zip on the black make it look really classy and sophisticated.

When I was visiting my friend in Leeds we had a little wonder around the shops and ended up in the New Look sale section. I find it hard to find stuff in the sale section of shops as size 8 is quite a common size that normally sells out pretty quickly. However I spotted this and just thought it was beautiful so I couldn't resist it for £15. It looks pretty summery but while Autumn is still quite warm I have been wearing this loads with my khaki jeans and fun gilet.

This is another purchase from the student lock-in evening! In my opinion H&M at the moment is amazing. Every time I go in the shop they have so many amazing new pieces and they are all so afford able. I couldn't resist getting this LBD for £20. The cut is really lovely and I think the sleeves are so pretty. Worn with simple jewellery and some little heels this is another item that I think looks a lot more expensive than it actually was.

The dress is also pretty heavy as under the layer of lace there is a thick lining so you don't have to worry about anything looking see-through!

Accessorize is another one of my weaknesses so I couldn't leave with out buying this beautiful necklace. I have a lot of pendants and quite a few statement necklaces but nothing longer and pretty like this. To me this necklace just screamed Christmas/New Year with the glitzy stars!

I think this would look great with a simple white blouse, jeans and some heels.

And last but not least, my more useful purchase. For university I managed to pack loads of drop earrings and lots of glitzy pretty studs, but not a lot of simple studs that I cold wear everyday. And during freshers week I wore my favourite simple white people studs out and lost them so I've been needing to replace them ever since. These were £6 for a pack of 5 which I thought was pretty good and I know that I am going to get so much wear out of all of these.

Hope you liked this little haul, I'm sure there will be more coming up soon! What have you guys been buying for Autumn/Winter? Speak soon xx

Which Is The Best £3 Eyeshadow Brush

Which Is The Best £3 Eyeshadow Brush

I always seem to not have enough eyeshadow brushes (or they are just all dirty!) so recently I have been looking for a cheap but good brush. Naturally the first place that I went was to Superdrug where I picked up the black brush on the left for £2.99 which I thought was such a bargain. Only when I finally got it home and started to test out the brush I was a little disappointed. Its not an awful brush it is just quite stiff and not very fluffy meaning that it is not very good for blending. I also find application of eyeshadow with this brush quite difficult and hard to make even. However one thing that I have found I can use this brush for is the Maybelline colour tattoos as it can handle the thicker product and pack on the colour.

Then while I was in H&M (a shop that has probably featured in my last 3 posts!) I saw some makeup brushes. I already have one other makeup brush from H&M which I use for putting eyeshadow on my crease which I think is amazing. So when I saw the eyeshadow brush on the left for again £2.99 I had to try it. And this time I got it home and I was so impressed. The brush is thick and soft and because it is really fluffy it makes eyeshadow application and blending so easy. I am actually quite tempted to buy a couple more of these brushes so I will have to wash them even less often, but I think that's just really lazy!

So instead of heading to Superdrug to get your makeup brushes go and check out what H&M have to offer. They don't do loads of different ones but the ones that they do are very good and are such a bargain!

Tartan Scarf and Khaki Jeans

Tartan Scarf and Khaki Jeans

Over the last few days the weather has suddenly started to get a lot colder so I feel like now it is acceptable for me to start getting out all of my scarves! I love this scarf that I got a few years ago on Ebay when I loved Jack Wills but didn't really have the money to buy stuff from there. Tartan always looks good in Autumn and Winter and I love the beautiful colours in this scarf. Because this scarf is quite bold I kept the rest of my outfit really simple with these khaki jean/jennings that I picked up the other day for £13 from H&M and an old white H&M V-neck jumper. For shoes I just wore my new Converses which I have basically been living in since I bought them a few weeks ago. And I wore my rose gold Nixon watch that I wear everyday and my gold necklace and rings from H&M which were in a post on Tuesday.

Let me know what you think of these outfits and whether you like reading my outfit posts. I really enjoy showing different pieces and what I would wear them with as an outfit. Hope you are all having a lovely day xx

H&M Jewellery Haul

H&M Jewellery Haul

For quite a long time now H&M has been one of my all time favourite places to shop for clothes. They are such a reasonable price and I just always find something that I love, particularly the jumpers and the jeans department. However however I'd never really ventured into the accessories section of the store before. Accessorize has always been my number one place to shop for accessories and once I've been there I didn't really need to go anywhere else. And from afar a lot of the jewellery in H&M reminded me quite a bit of the jewellery in Primark; large chunky and fairly cheap looking pieces. Whereas I prefer delicate simple pieces that I hope look more expensive that what I actually paid!

However while in H&M shopping for some black leggings the other day I took a little wonder into the jewellery section. And even though at first I came across the type of jewellery that I expected to find after a little searching I managed to find a few things that I love. I think it is fair to say that quite a bit of the jewellery that first spotted where big statement (and fairly cheap looking) pieces, particularly the necklaces and bracelets. But I did manage to spot this very simple gold V-shaped necklace which I love. I usually wear a lot of silver jewellery but for some reason as we are moving into Autumn I am constantly wanting to wear gold. I think this piece looks really modern and classy and I like to wear it with a simple white V-neck jumper.

The other things that I picked up were these rings which came together in a pack for about £3 which is insane! I don't think I will ever wear then all together like I have in this photo but at the moment I love wearing a bit of a mix of normal and midi rings. I like how in this pack there is a mix of gold and silver and a mix of shapes and sizes. I also think the silver branch one is just beautiful and such a unique design.

So if like me you hadn't before then I would recommend having a little look in the jewellery section on your next trip to H&M. You might find a few little treasures! Let me know what you think of my finds or what you think of H&M jewellery in the comments below. xx

H&M Tops Arrived!

H&M Tops Arrived!

The actual top is a slightly stretchy fabric so it fits really nicely.

This top comes slightly cropped but it doesn't show any stomach until you lift up your arms.

Today a couple of tops that I ordered off H&M arrived and I am just in love with them. I bought them when H&M had £5 all orders, and 10% off and free delivery so together they came to a lot cheaper than they should have been. Whenever you go internet shopping I really recommend quickly googling discount codes for the shop you are shopping at. A lot of shops don't always advertise all of their offers on their website. But if you have a quick look there are most often offers out there, and if they save you a bit of money then you might as well!

I think that I am going to get so much wear out of these two tops in summer. I am in love with the lace detailing across the top and on the sleeves of the white top. It's so feminine and pretty and will go with so many things already in my wardrobe. I also love the pale sky blue colour of the other top and the gorgeous lace and crotchet detail around the neckline. The blue top is also slightly cropped and I don't have a lot of tops like this but I think it is going to look great with a pair of denim short on the beach.

I think H&M is one of my favourite clothing stores at the moment. Their clothes are so affordable and preppy and pretty which is just my style at the moment. So definitely check out their website for some great summer pieces. I already have another wishlist growing!
