Everyday Gold

Everyday Gold

Katherine Penney Chic Beauty Makeup Gold Eyeshadow Naked 2 palette

While I am working I am wearing makeup everyday which means I get a lot more time to play around with different looks. I wear the same face, eyebrow products and mascara everyday so when it comes to eye makeup I like to play around a bit. Make sue that all of my different shadows and liners are getting some love!

Katherine Penney Chic Beauty Makeup Gold Eyeshadow Naked 2 palette

On Monday I decided to go for a pretty wash of gold all over my lids. The shade is Half Baked from my Naked 2 palette so it is really lovely and pigmented and stayed on at work really well. A lot of my eyeshadows are more of a bronzey shimmer so what I love about this shade is that it is a pure gold, but still not too yellow.

For this eye look I simply washed this all over my lid and then with a smaller brush brought it down to the lower lash line. Then I used a tiny bit of a light brown shade in the crease just to add some depth and then a tin bit of dark brown eyeliner and lots of my Rimmel mascara.

So here is the finished look that I wore to work. I'm wearing my Joules harbour top and statement necklace.

I also have second day curls from my Sunday family barbecue. And I think I actually prefer my hair like this as the waves are even looser. Just wish my hair was like this naturally!

We are nearly half way through the working week now! And I can't wait until the weekend to see Jack and then I am off to Spain on Monday! Speak soon xx

Bohemian White

Bohemian White

Katherine Penney Chic Bohemian White Summer Feathers Earrings Turtle Boho Floaty Blouse

I wanted to share with you the outfit that I wore yesterday for a family barbecue. I have found that while in the winter with all the layers my style turns more preppy with lots of collars and cable kints, in the summer my style gets a bit more bohemian, lots of floaty white tops and pretty accessories. It's weird really as they are two very different styles but I love them both.

The main aspect of this outfit are these beautiful feather earrings which I got ages ago in an Accessorize sale and only wore the for the first time yesterday! They are definitely a summer accessory but I think that they look so beautiful, especially with this feminine style of outfit. I don't know if feather earrings are really in this summer but I think that the subtle jewels and the pale pink shade make these more timeless and wearable that the brighter colour feathers that were around a few years ago.

I also decided to practice curling my hair yesterday in these pretty beachy waves. To do these I use my Babyliss curling wand and I have found that it works best to take really small strands of hair and twist them around the curling wand and then drop them out after only about a second. This way you get more of a wave than a curl. I also just brush these out with my fingers a bit afterwards but not a hair brush.

The top that I am wearing is another old sale purchase from Monsoon. It's not a shop that I usually go into as they aren't really aimed at my age range. But I do think that they have some beautiful tops, blouses and jumpers. This is a beautiful white floatly blouse that I sometime use in summer as a beach coverup. It's loose but still a flattering shape with skinny jeans and has a lovely appliqué detail around the buttons at the front.

Top - Monsoon
Jeans - Uniglo
Earrings - Accessorize
Turtle bracelet - Accessorize
Bracelet - Pandora
Watch - Nixon

Here is a close up so you can see the detailing on the blouse.

Hope everyone has a good Monday. I have work this afternoon plus several episodes of The Vampire Diaries that I need to catch up on! Speak soon xx

Benefits Of Dry Brushing

Benefits Of Dry Brushing

Katherine Penney Chic Dry Brushing Benefits Health Beauty

I have been dry brushing before I shower for probably nearly a year now. And while my friends and family think I'm crazy for doing it I wanted to share with you what dry brushing is and why I do it. I know that beauty fads come out all the time, and being a total beauty junkie I probably so get sucked in by advertising and magazines. But this is something that I have researched a lot, done for nearly a year and genuinely believe is really good.

So what is dry brushing? Dry brushing is simply brushing the skin with a brush like the one in the picture above before you shower. It best done starting at the hands and the ankles and brushing in long upward motions towards the heart.

Katherine Penney Chic Dry Brushing Benefits Health Beauty

What are the benefits?

The skin is the largest organ in the body yet I think so often we forget to care for it. Often when we think of skin we just think about the skin on our face as it is the most obvious and visible. But we need to look after all of out skin and I think that dry brushing is a really quick and simple step do add to your routine to do that.
  • Exfoliation - this is one of the simplest and most natural ways to exfoliate the skin
  • fewer in grown hairs - shedding dead skin cells through exfoliation can help with ingrowing hairs. I have been waxing my legs for years and I've definitely noticed a difference.
  • Smoother, brighter skin - shedding dead skin cells can help to improve the appearance of the skin.
  • Helps with blood flow in the skin
  • Can help with  muscle tone and a move even distribution of fat pockets
  • May reduce cellulite
So if you don't already I would really recommend dry brushing, you might find that you love it like I do. It is quick and easy and it actually feels very nice and relaxing before a shower and helps to wake me up in the morning. The brush that I use is just from Boots Botanics range but they have a few different options. Hope you enjoying reading this little post. xx

Exploring Kensington

Exploring Kensington

Katherine Penney Chic Life London Day Out Summer Exploring Gardens Photography

On Thursday Mum and I had tickets to go and see the Alexander McQueen Savage Beauty Exhibition at the V&A Museum. Our slot wasn't until the afternoon so I decided to head up early to London to meet Jack, my boyfriend and explore Kensington area.

Katherine Penney Chic Life London Day Out Summer Exploring Gardens Photography

The place that we wondered around was Holland Park which is the most beautiful park I have been to in London. It's pretty big and there are so many different little areas and secret places to explore.

Katherine Penney Chic Life London Day Out Summer Exploring Gardens Photography

The weather was really lovely that day, I think I was probably wearing too many clothes! But we sat on a bench here and soaked up the sun in the rose garden. And roses are my favourite so I was pretty happy!

Katherine Penney Chic Life London Day Out Summer Exploring Gardens Photography

I saw these arches with all of the vines twisting and winding up them and had to take a photo.

I took my new Accessorize backpack which I did a post about a few days ago to london and it was perfect. I could fit so much stuff in it and it wasn't too heavy and I love how summery it looks. I did feel a bit like Dora the Explorer with my backpack on and my camera around my neck though! Typical tourist!

Another beautiful part of the pack that we found with a little waterfall in the background.

Katherine Penney Chic Life London Day Out Summer Exploring Gardens Photography

After doing a lot of exploring and taking a lot of photos we found a grassy area to lie down and do some sunbathing. And that was when I saw this beautiful peacock strolling majestically around the garden and I had to chase after it to get a photo!

Katherine Penney Chic Life London Day Out Summer Exploring Gardens Photography

On the way back to the station we wandered down this lovely very expensive street with beautiful big white houses. They sort of reminded me of Made in Chelsea! Maybe one day I'll be living in a house like this! That's the dream!

Sadly I could take any photos of the Alexander McQueen exhibition which is undestandable but a shame. It was so amazing and there were so many beautiful things that I wanted to take a picture of to remember. But I think that the exhibition is running until August so if you love fashion and are able to get tickets it really was an incredible experience.

I'm heading off to work at Joules soon so I should probably start getting ready rather than blogging! But hope everyone has a lovely Saturday. Speak soon xx

Pretty Preppy

Pretty Preppy

Katherine Penney Chic Stripes Joules Pretty Preppy Collar Simple Classic Fashion Style

I wonder if I will ever get sick of wearing stripes?! Well I hope the answer is no as they make up about half of my wardrobe. Anyway, Today I wanted to show you how I styled one of my Joules tops for work on Sunday. If you haven't read my post on the clothes that I picked out for my Joules uniform then you can have a quick read here if you like. But basically I picked out four tops, three of which were actually the same top in different colours because I loved it so much!

So after a few days of some amazing weather where I got some serious tanning done Sunday was a little colder. So I decided to layer up with a sleeveless denim collared shirt. Navy stripes and collars, wow, I'm so predictable! I love how simple, preppy and put together this looks.

After work I got back and didn't have a lot of time before I went out to Pizza Express with my family. I thought my smart casual outfit was already dinner appropriate so I added my Zara trench coat and this brown bag, which is actually the detachable inside compartment to another bag! So I just threw all of my rubbish in and folded it over so it looked a little nicer. Then shove on some red lipstick, I used my Clinique Chubby Stick in the shade Two Ton Tomato and there you have it. A preppy daytime look which can be dressed up for the evening in less than 5 minutes!

Hope you liked this post. I'd love to hear your thoughts of the outfit in the comments below. Speak soon xx

Rimmel Extra Super Lash Mascara

Rimmel Extra Super Lash Mascara

Katherine Penney Chic Rimmel Mascara Makeup Beauty Review

I picked this up about a couple of months ago when it was recommended to me by a friend who always has amazing lashes. However in my rush I managed to pick up the brown/black mascara which is something that I never usually do. At first I was a bit upset and felt like I had wasted my money, but I couldn't take it back as I have already opened the packaging.

However I decided to give it ago anyway and I have been really liking it. It's quite a natural mascara although it can be built up to something quite bold. I used this for my everyday makeup which I like to be quite natural. I also usually wear a lot of brown and beige eyeshadows and liners so this brown/black mascara actually works really well with this look and is much more natural.

Katherine Penney Chic Rimmel Mascara Makeup Beauty Review

The one think that I would say about this mascara is that you have to spend a little bit of time scraping the product back into the tube so that there isn't too much on the wand and your mascara isn't too clumpy. But to be honest I end up doing this with every mascara I use anyway so I don't find this too much of a problem.

Makeup brands release a new mascara all the time and advertise it like crazy. This Rimmel mascara has been around for years and the fact that it is still being produced I think shows that it is obviously a good one. You hardly ever hear people talk about it though so I hope that this post has been helpful. And for less than  £5 I really recommend trying this mascara out. Although the colour choice is totally up to you! xx

Katherine Penney Chic Style Fashion Smart Classic Outfit ootd Marble Black jeans ASOS Zara Summer

I wanted to share with you a smarter everyday look for something like a date or a nice day out. I actually wore this to my interview for Joules a couple of weeks ago!

Katherine Penney Chic Style Fashion Smart Classic Outfit ootd Marble Black jeans ASOS Zara Summer

I chose to wear my new top from ASOS sale that I ordered a couple of weeks. It's this beautiful pinky beige and black marble print in a boxyT-shirt style. I also love the fabric of this top, it is slightly textured and feels really lovely but it is also still breathable for Summer. And for right now when the weather can be slightly temperamental I wore my Zara mac as I think it keeps the look nice and smart.

I love pairing boxy style tops like this one with a really well fitting pair of skinny jeans like these lovely ones from Zara. And I chose to go for black jeans as they are smart, classic and pick up the colour in the top. These jeans are very stretchy and comfortable and I love wearing then.

To accessorise I kept it simple with my delicate gold necklace, my gold watch and some classic sunglasses.

Top - ASOS
Jeans - Zara
Trench Coat - Zara
Shoes - Office
Sunglasses - Forever 21
Necklace - Accessorize
Watch - Nixon

Hope you liked this outfit post. I'd love to hear in the comments below what you thought of this smarter look. Speak soon xx
