Taylor Swift - 1989

Taylor Swift - 1989

So unless you have been living under a rock for the past few months you will know that Taylor Swift has just released a new album called 1989 that has already gone to number 1 on iTunes.

I've been a fan of Taylor Swift since I first heard the song Love Story at the age of 12. And 6 years on and I still love her music just as much. I think that she is an incredibly talented songwriter and singer and performer (I was lucky enough to see her Red Tour!). She has a song for about every single emotion a growing teenage girl can feel and there where times when I was younger where I would hide in my room listening to her songs on my nano and her lyrics would speak to me like no other artist could.

Her music has changed a bit since her first few albums and she's slowly moving away from country. And while I do still love country Taylor I feel that as her music matures I'm also growing up with her. Her last album Red was quite different to her typical country songs but for me it was my absolute all time favourite album. Every single song was so beautifully written and to me it was just perfect.

1989 is another incredible album by Taylor Swift. There are some song you can dance to, songs to sing to and songs to cry to. She takes you on this emotional roller-coaster through the album as she pours her heart and so much emotion into every song. So if you think this might be your kind of music and you haven't checked it out yet then I really can't recommend this enough.

My favourite songs from 1989:
Blank Space
Out Of The Woods
Wildest Dreams
Wonderland
You Are In Love
Shake It Off
This Love

Also if you buy the Deluxe album you can hear a few voice memos of how Taylor begins to write a few of the different songs. I think it is so cool to hear such a talented artist write their music and then go back and listen to the completed song. Obviously this is not a sponsored post but I just wanted to talk about my favourite artists new album.

Let me know in the comment below what you think of the album and what your favourite songs are :) xx

P.S. Happy Halloween everyone :D

Winter Beauty Favourites

Winter Beauty Favourites

Penney Chic beauty winter makeup drugstore

Today I wanted to talk about my Winter Beauty Favourites and I feel like now it is suddenly getting a lot colder it is he perfect time. I love all of the beautiful rich shades that you always see this time of year and everything starts to feel a little bit Christmassy! All of these products you can find on the highstreet for really great prices too!

Rimmel Scandaleyes Eyeshadow Stick - Bluffing
This is just the perfect shade for everyday or for evening. It's a beautiful shimmery bronzy brown that takes just seconds to apply over the lid and on the lower lash line. And I think that this works really well with a darker wintery lip colours as it is still fairly subtle.

The Body Shop Eye Colour - 43
I was lucky enough to find this in the sale last year and just fell completely in love with the colour. It's a beautiful shimmery emerald green that I do have to feel a little brave to wear. But you don't see this colour makeup too often and for me this is just something a little different that looks gorgeous for this time of year.

Sleek Blush - Coral
I think blusher is essential for this time of year. At the moment I don't have a tan and my skin often looks a little dull. Blusher is perfect for giving your skin a healthy glow and make you look as if you have just come in from the cold! For me despite the name this isn't really a coral colour. But for this time of year I love slightly darker blushes that can really make a deep red or plum lipstick pop!

The Body Shop Eyeliner - Golden Brown
Firstly these Body Shop eyeliners are so pigmented and amazing for blending. I love this golden brown shade just in the outer corner and along my lower last line to add something pretty to my everyday makeup look.

Maybelline Colorsensational Shine Gloss - Gleaming Grenadine
I picked this up not to long ago and it has already become such a favourite of mine. This is just the perfect gloss if you want a red lip without making too much of a statement. So I thin that it is perfect for everyday as well.

NYC Expert Last Nail Polish - 263 Money Never Sleeps
I saw a nail polish in this beautiful emerald green colour by Butter London a few weeks ago but I couldn't bring myself to part with £12 for one nail polish, especially now I am a student! But then a few days later in Superdrug I saw this shade by NYC and I knew it was meant to be! I think for autumnal and winter colours this is a really great alternative to the burgundy plum shade that everyone starts to wear. And this was such a bargain!

Rimmel Lasting Finish Lipstick - 128 Starry Eyed
I wore this so much last winter and I know this year it is going to be exactly the same! This really is just the most beautiful deep plum dark lip shade and I think that for their price Rimmel do some of the best lipsticks on the highstreet.

Essie Nail Polish - Midnight Cami
Another colour that I love to wear on my nails this time of year is navy. I think it looks so chic and sophisticated. This one by Essie is the perfect navy with a hit of shimmer running through it. And I really can't fault the formulation of Essie nail polishes.

Loreal Colour Riche Nude Eyeshadow - 205 Sable Lame
Don't really understand the name of this one, but that aside this really is the most beautiful Christmassy gold. And yes, I did use the C word for a second time in this post! The formulation of these eyeshadows are just so pigmented and I really can't get over this amazing gold shade. This would look perfect for the upcoming party season this an amazing red lip.

Hope you liked this post. What beauty products do you love for winter? xx

I Think I've Been Blogging Over A Year...

I Think I've Been Blogging Over A Year...

Picture I found from the same time I started this blog! To be honest I think I look exactly the same!

Oops! I feel a little silly. Just now I went to check and I have realised that I wrote my first post on this blog a year ago yesterday! That's crazy! I honestly can't believe that I have been blogging for a year now. I really have loved every moment of it and I just wanted to quickly thank everyone who reads my blog, likes my posts or writes comments. It means so much to me. But really I just love taking pretty pictures, writing about clothes and products that I like and uploading them onto my own little space on the internet. And I've found so many amazing blogs along the way that I now can't stop reading!

Lots of love,
Katherine

A Few New Things

A Few New Things

Penney Chic shopping haul H&M beauty makeup jewellery

Just wanted to share with you a few really pretty and not very expensive little things that I picked up the other day. The first place that I went was TK Maxx which is a shop I feel I am getting a little bit obsessed with. When I walk in there I always head straight to the makeup section as you can find some really great stuff there like brands that are harder to find or more expensive brands for really cheap. I picked up this elf jumbo eyeshadow stick in a really beautiful bronze shade. Then when I was heading to the till I spotted this eyeshadow brush and I really wanted to try it out.

After that I quickly popped into H&M and found myself loving a lot of the things in the accessories section. But I managed to limit myself to this little pale pink pouch for about £5 and this set of a moon and star necklaces for £3. I thought that the pouch would be great for cards and money when I am only taking a clutch out and I thought that the necklaces were so pretty with a simple top or jumper.

Hope you liked this little haul of just a few little bits and pieces. I'm back at university after spending a lovely few days in the Peak District with my family. Speak soon xx

Sheinside Wishlist

Sheinside Wishlist

About a year or so ago I found Sheinside.com after seeing a picture on Tumblr of a jumper I loved. Since then I've bought a few things from this American website. The products are really unique and not typical things you can find on the highstreet. They are also really reasonably priced with dresses for under £20 and jackets around £30. Anyway, earlier today I found myself on this website again and I found several things that I feel in love with and wanted to share with you.

White high waist net skater skirt
Beige lapel long sleeved zipper wool coat
Apricot lapel long sleeve belt coat
White sleeveless porcelain print flare dress
Blue sleeveless vintage floral jacquard dress

And you can check out the website here

My Real Techniques Brushes

My Real Techniques Brushes

Penney Chic real techniques brushes

Penney Chic real techniques brushes

I know that there are so many reviews of these brushes all over the internet but I really wanted to talk about what I like to use each of these brushes for. I was lucky enough to receive all of these brushes for my birthday this year after wanted them for over a year. And I was definitely not disappointed. These are really amazing brushes, especially for the price and I honestly do not know what I used before these!

The Buffing Brush - I think this is my favourite brush of all. It just applies foundation or BB cream so beautifully and evenly. Before this I just used to use my fingers and it was so much harder to really blend the makeup in so it looked natural. Can't live without this one now!

The Pointed Foundation Brush - This is probably my least used out of all the brushes. But sometimes I like to use it to really blend in my concealer, particularly around my eyes. If you have any other uses for this brush though then I would love to hear about them in the comments.

The Foundation Brush - I don't think that I have ever actually used this for foundation, but to me this is the perfect bronzer/contour brush. I use this with my Bourjois chocolate bronzer to really define my cheek bones and then I like to bring it up a bit on my forehead and down under my chin to create a shadow of a more defined jaw line. Personally I think that this brush is perfect for bronzer.

The Detailer Brush - I don't use this one all the time but I do find it comes in very useful for when I am doing a smokey eye look. I like to use my Sephora black eye liner to outline my eyes and then I use this brush to smudge everything out and make it look more smokey. The brush isn't overly soft which makes it perfect for blending thicker more pigmented eye liners/ gels or cream eyeshadows.

The Expert Face Brush - this is the other one that I like to use for foundation and BB cream. I think I prefer the buffing brush as it is slightly softer so I think blends more naturally but this is still a really good one, way better than fingers!

The Contour Brush - Again I don't really use this one for contour. For me this is the perfect little blusher brush that's quite nice and small you you can really focus the colour where you want it on the cheeks.

Hope that maybe this helps you find some new ways you can use you real techniques brushes. They are really amazing brushes, some of the best on the high street. And if you use any of these brushes in a different way then let me know in the comments :) xx

Autumn Dinner Outfit

Autumn Dinner Outfit

Penney Chic autumn dress style fashion topshop

Yesterday we had a formal dinner at my halls of residence so we all had a chance to get dressed up. And believe it or not this is the first time I have worn a dress at university! I just wanted to quickly show you what I wore and how I did my makeup as I was feeling pretty Autumnal.

I've finally worked out how to position and set my camera on timer so that it focuses by sorry that the quality of the pictures aren't great. Hopefully I will get better with practice. I just thought it would be nice for you to see the dress on me rather than laying it on my bed which I have been doing for all my other outfit posts recently.

The dress that I am wearing is from Topshop and I got it in the sale a couple of years ago. It's a little small for me but I just loved it so much that I was prepared to squeeze! I just think that the colours are beautiful and that it is prefect for this time of year. It's also great because I can wear it with black tights and it can pick up the black lace on the dress.

Penney Chic beauty autumn makeup

Hehe! Looking nice and posy! For my makeup I did a little bit of a brown smokey eye with my Maybelline colour tattoo in On and on bronze and the Rimmel glam eyes palette in smokey brun. And then lots of mascara and a bit of a berry lip (although you can't really see it in the photo)

Penney Chic autumn dress style fashion topshop

Left my hair natural and kept my jewellery very simple as there is quite a lot going on in the dress already.

Love the beautiful lace detail on the dress.

Hope you like this post and are all looking forward to the weekend (and possibly half term now). I have a reading week at university which is basically a half term so tomorrow I am going to stay with my family for a few days in the peak district. It's been 6 weeks since I last saw them and I have missed them all so much. Can't wait for lots of hugs and chatting with my family and snuggles with my doggy. Might not be able to post quite as often as I really want to spend some quality time with them. Won't be seeing them after this until Christmas! Speak soon xx

A few days ago I read a post by Miss Makeup Magpie about an Essie Haul that she had done on a website called Fragrance Direct which is selling Essie nail polishes for £2.50. You can check out her post and see the colours that she bought here. I'd never heard of this website before but I really am so happy that I have as I found some really great bargains.

In Boots Essie nail polishes are sold for £7.99 and from salons they are even more expensive. So I can't believe how cheap these polishes are, especially considering they are some of the new shades. As well as 32 of the regular polishes they also sell two of the snake skin nail polishes and two of the multidimensional top coats.

The shades that I picked up were:
Shearling Darling - A beautiful sophisticated dark browny plum

Belugaria - a black with large glitter pieces in that I think will be great for Halloween!
Ignite the night - A very fine silver glittery polish perfect for the upcoming party season

Parka Perfect - This is my favourite and one that I have wanted for a while. It's a bluey grey with a hint of sparkle running though. So beautiful and usual and I think this will look lovely for every season.

I also picked up a couple of Calvin Klein lipsticks for less than £2 which I will write about once I have used then a bit and done some samples. So if you haven't checked out fragrance direct then you can click the link here. I especially recommend it is you are an Essie obsessive like myself. I've been back on their website since and made another wishlist for more polishes. So far I'm staying strong though!

Neutrogena Skin Care Rountine

Neutrogena Skin Care Rountine

I haven't written about my skincare routine for quite a long time on the blog and considering that I have been using these products probably about 4 months now I feel like I can talk to you about how I have been getting on with them.

Since about the age of 14 I've had some problems with my skin. It's not awful, I know that some people have a lot worse but it is enough to make me pretty self concious. Over the years I have tried so many different products hoping to find the one, but I never really have. Some have just been awful and really irritated my skin and others have worked for a little while.

So before I talk to you about these products I just wanted to say that they aren't miracle workers. Your skin isn't just about the products that you put on it, there are so many other factors. I like to think I eat pretty healthily, drink enough water and get enough sleep most of the time. But the fact is that right now I am still in my teens and spots are a totally normal thing. So I realise that a skin care routine probably isn't going to make all my spots disappear but I just need something that isn't going to make me breakout more than I naturally will. And I have faith that my skin will continue to improve as I get older and don't have as many hormones flying all over the place!

Anyway, back to the products. After a particularly bad skin patch several months ago I went to the doctors and she recommend Neutrogena as the best high street brand for skin care. She said most of their products contain Salicylic Acid which is the best ingredient for fighting spots. I picked up this pink grapefruit facial wash and so far I am really impressed. It smells really nice and leaves my skin feeling really clean and fresh but it is still gentle enough on my sensitive skin. I definitely do still get spots but since using these Neutrogena products I think my skin had cleared up a bit and become a lot less "bumpy".

About a week later I went back to Boots and picked up the blackhead eliminating lotion and the oil-free moisturiser. I had always though I had dry skin so had always used really thick heavy moisturisers. But it turns out that was probably what was clogging up my pores as I actually have normal/combination skin that can get a little sensitive. I use the blackhead eliminating lotion a bit like a toner and it only took about 2/3 weeks to see the reduction in my blackheads, especially around my nose. I also now only use a tiny bit of the moisturiser and concentrate this mostly on my cheeks where my skin gets driest. Sometimes when you do have spots the best thing that you can do is leave them to dry out on their own rather than coat them in millions of different potions and lotions.

If you are looking for a quick fix to perfect skin, like the majority of products these aren't going to deliver. But they are good ones in my opinion particularly for younger more acne prone skin. Hope you have found this helpful in some way. Or at least if you do suffer from bad skin then know that you are not alone and that hopefully it will go with time.

Mini Haul - Black and White

Mini Haul - Black and White

I feel like my current love for monochrome is starting to get a little bit out of hand! It seems like everything I buy is either black, white or a mix of the two. But anyway, recently (as always!) I have been doing a little bit of shopping and I wanted to show you what I have been buying.

The first thing that I bought was this cami top from River Island. I've seen a lot of people wearing this top in different colours but the print of this one really caught my eye. It's quite unusual and I thought it would look great with jeans and my black leather jacket. What I really love about this top though is the neckline as it is really flattering.

The other black and white print top that I got was this one from Topshop. I'd tried it on in the shop before and fallen in love with it, but I just couldn't bring myself to part with £38! So when the student lock-in came around in Manchester I had 20% off plus a £5 gift card I finally allowed myself to buy the top. It was around £25 which I think is still a little pricey but I also think that the cut, print and shape make this top look a lot more expensive.
One think that does annoy me slightly though is that Topshop seem to be copying this print onto everything, leggings, crop tops, sleeveless tops etc and since I've bought this I've seen so many people wearing this print. Oh well, it's still beautiful!

I especially love the back of this top as I think that the stripe with the zip on the black make it look really classy and sophisticated.

When I was visiting my friend in Leeds we had a little wonder around the shops and ended up in the New Look sale section. I find it hard to find stuff in the sale section of shops as size 8 is quite a common size that normally sells out pretty quickly. However I spotted this and just thought it was beautiful so I couldn't resist it for £15. It looks pretty summery but while Autumn is still quite warm I have been wearing this loads with my khaki jeans and fun gilet.

This is another purchase from the student lock-in evening! In my opinion H&M at the moment is amazing. Every time I go in the shop they have so many amazing new pieces and they are all so afford able. I couldn't resist getting this LBD for £20. The cut is really lovely and I think the sleeves are so pretty. Worn with simple jewellery and some little heels this is another item that I think looks a lot more expensive than it actually was.

The dress is also pretty heavy as under the layer of lace there is a thick lining so you don't have to worry about anything looking see-through!

Accessorize is another one of my weaknesses so I couldn't leave with out buying this beautiful necklace. I have a lot of pendants and quite a few statement necklaces but nothing longer and pretty like this. To me this necklace just screamed Christmas/New Year with the glitzy stars!

I think this would look great with a simple white blouse, jeans and some heels.

And last but not least, my more useful purchase. For university I managed to pack loads of drop earrings and lots of glitzy pretty studs, but not a lot of simple studs that I cold wear everyday. And during freshers week I wore my favourite simple white people studs out and lost them so I've been needing to replace them ever since. These were £6 for a pack of 5 which I thought was pretty good and I know that I am going to get so much wear out of all of these.

Hope you liked this little haul, I'm sure there will be more coming up soon! What have you guys been buying for Autumn/Winter? Speak soon xx
